Here in the sunny South there is a definitive nip in the air.

When will I take that bold step to burn my savings on gas and electric?

Got one of them with the arms in. Looks stupid but works, can have a drink or use the remote then pull hand back into sleeve and stay nice and warm. With a blanket you have to fold it back to do that, and then you lose all that body heat you've generated.

Not sure how we managed to get lucky but we locked in with BG in summer 2021 until September 2023 so still on a cheap tariff, currently in credit by quite a chunk and only paying £100 a month for both gas and electricity, I imagine we will be in for a shock when next winter comes

It's not all about gas. I've just paid £700 for 700 litres of heating oil, when back in February is was just 35 per litre. Yet you seldom hear anything about oil cos its not a perceived monopoly for whining on about like a perceived utility. Just saying......

Invest in adding a chimney to the house and a wood burner. It's far cheaper, have a friend who did this, he only uses the heating in the morning for around a hour. The rest of the time is using free wood for burning. Always toasty warm in his house walking around in shorts and no top even in the winter.

I get my electricity from a company that says it supplies 100% renewable power so the sun is still shining and the wind is still blowing so my energy price should not be affected by the price of gas.

Oh hang on...

I put the heating on this afternoon. It is oil. The thermostat was hovering around 14°/15°. I set it to 18° and switched it on. The radiators were live for less than an hour and it has been warm ever since. Much better than numb fingers and wearing outdoor clothes indoors.
