It is the key ingredient of my favourite festive drink this time of the year, namely Snowball.

Got a bottle on the shelf already, just resisting the temptation to open it.

May start today as it is December afterall.

BTW, for fans of Advocaat, Lidl's have dark chocolate barrels with Advocaat as well as other liqueurs, and they are delicious!

Going back to innocence now, but they remind me of Christmas at my mums oldest sisters.

She was a great cook, but the 2 main things that stick in my mind was feeling all grown for being allowed a snowball and also being given ice cream floats

Yum Yum Yum - used to love them

The way I make Snowball:

Into a glass sufficient to hold at least 500ml, add a 330ml can of 7Up, add a big glug of Advocaat and stir, then add sufficient lime cordial to taste.

Drink via a straw, stirring occasionally.

Slice of orange top with a cocktail cherry optional.

If one tries to make it by adding the Advocaat to the glass first before adding the lemonade, then it will froth and take longer to make.

That's it, I am going to crack that bottle open and have my first Snowball of the season later this evening!

Ready made ones are very weak in alcohol content. Much prefer to make it at home with a good measure of Advocaat to make it tasty.

I can't help but notice that you are very specific about the amount of 7Up required, but not so much with the advocaat

For those that aren't too good with metric measurements, a 'big glug' is usually about a third of a bottle

That's because I know the size of a can by heart!

A 70cl bottle usually lasts a few days for me, and a good glug is likely to be 70ml+.

You can get a cheaper version in Morrisons too, and also in the likes of Lidl's and Aldi's.

I have had a number of less expensive versions than Warninks (the one on offer at Morrisons, and possibly the most well-known brand), and they were all fine.

Advocaat is pure evil!

Yellow filth that tastes like....well....lets just not go there!!!

Only seems to crop up at Xmas - and although its alcoholic - as it contains eggs it'll have a 'use by/best before' date, so make sure you're not buying last years stock!

Or worse - drinking a part used bottle from last year!

Can do more damage to your arse than a vindaloo with phaal sauce!!

Advocaat is my Christmas morning drink - to make my snowballs I use cloudy lemonade, a good slug of Advocaat, a dash of lime juice, a good shot of vodka, slice of fresh lemon and a glace cherry. I can drink several of those during the morning and family always ask for one when they pop round. Will have to treat myself to some of those chocolate Advocaat barrels mentioned previously too.
