Is anyone considering going to London for the Queen's funeral?

I know it will be mental with an additional 1m people there, but I'm on the verge of buying a train ticket .. I feel compelled to attend

It’s a piece of history isn’t it?

You can say “I was there” but actually you’ll see more on the telly.

I’m tempted to be part of history. But the throngs of people as you say puts me off..

Considering trying to go for the lying in state, but there's no train tickets on sale from Manc for next weekend at all and Westminster Hall doesn't look very disability accessible and there's no info online at all. I don't know if it's a good idea.

We have no choice as we live here.

On a serious note we did go to Buckingham palace late on Friday night and it was Very sombre but in a nice way if that makes any sense at all. We were discussing earlier if we would go to watch the funeral possession but the answer is probably not as when we went to Buckingham palace we didn't get there till nearly midnight and it was so busy. We will probably stay-at-home and watch it on the television.

There is disabled access I saw it on a local post earlier today on FB. There will be well over an extra one million people though.

Going to Buckingham palace isn't too bad particularly if you go later in the evening or very early in the morning. It's very well organised down there.

The lack of train tickets makes it an academic issue for now..... So long as wheelchairs can get in the hall, I'd consider it.

You would have to check to be a 100% certain but when we went down to Buckingham palace the other night we were allowed through barriers other people weren't and helped to get through the crowds by the police.

National Express and Megabus are good options for London. As it happens I'm in London this week but I won't attend the funeral. Utmost respect for the lady, but TV coverage will be extensive and I don't do crowds..

That wouldn't make any difference to be honest they would probably be better to get a train into central London and walk. The tubes are insane going in towards Green Park, Westminster, St James's park And pretty much any zone one tube station at the moment. We went down to Buckingham palace at about midnight on Friday night and there were still thousands upon thousands of people there when we left at 2 AM. There is no quiet time here at the moment.

Honestly central London is absolutely crazy right now. At midnight on Friday Green Park station was busier than it normally is at rush hour on a week day. They even have had to close it a few times as it's been too packed and that never happens.

I would have gone but because of carrying enough oxygen tanks for me I'd have to drive and the thought of trying to drive round and through London with all the extra people makes it a no no for me. I'm not actually a huge royalist but I feel The Queen deserved my respect and I would have liked to pay my last respects in person.

There will be no avoiding crowds at any time you go. We went to Buckingham palace on Friday at midnight and it was still crazy.

I was listening to a reporter earlier saying the expected wait time for people wanting to file past the coffin is expected to be over 4 hours at any time of the day. I'm not trying to put anyone off as I think it's important for people to go if they want to but I think it's also important for people to know there will be no quiet times.

I've just booked train tickets to go to London on Sunday. Planning on going to see the Queen lying in state and then stay overnight for the funeral.

Do it OP, you may regret it otherwise, especially as you're already considering going.

We don't know yet as there are several different plans in place and at the moment don't know which one is going to be used. All the information at the moment says Information on how people can see the Queen lying in state Will be released within the next couple of days. It has been suggested it may be ticketed.

Is it open 24/7?

It should be 23hrs a day. No tickets but long queues I'm sure.

I'm going on Monday.

Tomorrow? "

I just checked the timings, and Her Maj will be moved from Buck House to the Palace of Westminster when I am right in the area. I shall certainly give her a wave if our paths cross.

No.

Not interested.

Not my family.

Not my business.

But I hope those that do go find whatever they are looking for and it helps them in whatever way they need/desire.

"I've just booked train tickets to go to London on Sunday. Planning on going to see the Queen lying in state and then stay overnight for the funeral.

Do it OP, you may regret it otherwise, especially as you're already considering going.

Do you need tickets to get to see her lying in state?

We don't know yet as there are several different plans in place and at the moment don't know which one is going to be used. All the information at the moment says Information on how people can see the Queen lying in state Will be released within the next couple of days. It has been suggested it may be ticketed."

Thank you.. I am considering driving down if i can work from home in London (i can stay with family)/friends)

I doubt it. I'm going for the occasion, the atmosphere and to just pay my respects. I've never been to any Royal event before but this does feel different - the most significant State event since the death of Churchill.

There's been zero train tickets to buy from Manchester and back again on Sat or Sun since before the date was announced. Weekend of 24/25 is also unavailable to buy also. Other weekends available. I don't think Avanti have changed the ticketing since they called off the strike.

If you want to go, do it. Book that ticket. It will be busy as hell so a bit of planning and good timing and your be good. No. Ive managed to be able to watch all the proceedings live on tv, from the announcement, the proclamations, her departure from Balmoral, her arrival at Edinburgh and will continue to do so over the coming week. It's been no less emotional than if I were there, and I've seen so much more than I would have done if I were there in the crowds due to the coverage, I'm happy to continue being there for her and with her on my sofa x

Good luck if you do make the trip x

Train operators are warning that it will be extremely busy over Sunday and Monday.

It will NOT be possible to travel by train, from London to Windsor to view proceedings at both ends.

The Queen will be buried in the crypt at St George's at Windsor, so there won't be a grave.

The lying in State will be very very busy. You will have to go through airport style security, and you may have to wait for several hours. I do expect it to be extremely well organised though.

If you wish to go then you should simply bite the bullet and go, otherwise you’ll regret not having gone, plan ahead and go OR just watch over and over again on TV.

Book your assistance as normal, the station will normally try and seat you in one of the 10 seats closest to the wheelchair space (these are the seats that assisted travel would hold anyway)

"Queues of 12 hours for the lying in state part. Who over aged over 50 can hold their bladder for that long?

I doubt they will be that long for four days, and sure toilets will be available!

I think they will be longer..

This is the biggest 'occasion' by far in our history.."

Maybe. But it is open almost 24hrs so I think there will be quieter periods.

A 12 hour queue generally doesn’t lend itself to quieter periods.

If I'm honest I think you will probably see a lot more. If you feel the need to be around people is there somewhere open air where they are showing it on a big screen?

Only a very small bag will be allowed in.

I bring my own chair "

If you're able, just walk and avoid using the Tube. The centre of London isn't as big as you might think. I walked from Kings Cross to Westminster quite easily before.

This is true normally but at the moment lots of roads and Pavements are shut off.

I did Euston to Embankment by wheelchair back in June, just about half an hour. The issue is getting TO London. Avanti aren't making tickets or timetables available until perhaps Thursday of this week, for the weekend.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Edinburgh currently has an estimated 20,000 waiting to file past the coffin. That's a small queue compared to the estimates for people coming to London. It's about the same as use just one tube line over rush hours (c1.5 hours).

I'm in London but will watch it on telly and do the local things.

I was pleasantly surprised at the number of people at my local Proclamation yesterday.

Just to let you know I did it.. I waited 5 hours in line, and I am so glad I did

Even just getting to know the people around me and hearing their stories..

It was peaceful.. almost reverential, it was beautiful
