It’s very simple.

It’s a cap on how much you’ll pay for your energy.

Unless you use more.

In which case you’ll pay more as there’s not a cap on the cap.

What could be simpler than that?

As I understand it, it's how much the average family will pay if they use the average amount of power at the increased price. Why on god's green earth they can't just say electricity is £4 a kilo and gas is £3 an inch I do not know

So let me use an analogy to help myself....

There is a cap on how much weight cakes can make me gain .... but if I eat more cakes than I should I will put weight on ..... is that it ????

It's a cap on the unit price and standing charge per day price. Not a cap on the final bill. If you use a shitload of energy, you'll pay for all of it. The £2500 figure is based on the average usage of the average household. No idea what average actually IS, but some of us will pay more than £2500 (because we use more energy than average) and some will pay less (below average users).

No-one can tell you your exact bill because that depends on your kWh usage. They can and will tell you your unit price per kWh.

Here endeth the lesson.

Energy is priced per kilowatt hour.

According to Ofgem, from the 1st October 2022

Electricity

£0.52 per kWh up from £0.28 per kWh

Daily standing charge: £0.46 up from £0.45

Gas

£0.15 per kWh - up from £0.07 per kWh

Daily standing charge: £0.28 up from £0.27

Those are the maximum prices per unit. But a user can use enough energy to put them beyond the £2500 annually that's being cited in the media.

So it's all crap. Essentially we will be paying DOUBLE what we did last year.

Indeed.

I think its irresponsible that they keep pushing this £2500 figure, as it gives people false hope. They would be better off saying your bill will double, but of course that doesn’t suit the governments agenda as it will make the population angry that energy firms are making massive profits yet its not passed on to the consumer.

Assuming your energy consumption has not changed, then in a round about way yes we will be paying double (ignoring the daily standing charge)

2. The highest amount a thieving capitalist millionaire can rob me of.

3. A device for preventing pregnancy that goes up a woman's foof.

4. Something to do with ice at either end of the Earth

5. A metal thing on the end of gas pipe

6. A metal thing on the end of a water pipe.

7. A plastic top on pill bottles

8. A flippy thing on drinks bottles

9. A head ( as in per capita )

10. The final straw ( as in To fucking cap it all ...... )

They can't tell you as the bill amount hasn't been capped just the amount of the standing order and the price of the fuel. Use less pay less.

It's all bs, fluffing round the truth that they've let our power generating ability falter in favour of greedy profit... and need to pay for the new nuclear power stations that Boris had signed for.

What I don't understand is why it's all costing so much ...a barrel of crude is the lowest price it's been since 2016 at the moment?

It's ridiculous that there is sheer capitalist greed pushing it all. Any time it's challenged you get a chorus of "ho, hum, yes, well, you see, oh, back to what I was saying about...."

It's not simple or easy to fix but there's a way to ease it. Same as passing on the reductions in oil price. They go up over night but take weeks to come back down. The argument "we have to sell it at the price we bought it" seems to only apply to the higher prices never the low.

Shameless greed

Rant over
