IT Guys and Gals-Privacy

I had a guy pressure me into giving him my mobile number because he declared that Fab is not a Private Secure Platform.

I am not a very private person. Mainly because my autistic traits stop me from lying and sneaking around ( sorry cheaters) and my BPD traits torment me if I keep everything bottled up inside.

Secrets are a trigger for me but I understand that other people need privacy.

My problem is so-called privacy is often used to abuse and harass and bl@*kma@*l and threaten too many people.

So my question for the TECH people is how secure is Fab and are other sites ?Granted that I'm assuming that it's not encrypted like Whatsapp.

Yes my mobile is a burner but a true stalker will call you from other numbers when you block them. My social media has very tight settings and most I never post anything on there. It's just for information purposes.

I'm not great with technology but I'm all for everyone keeping safe! male female or LGBTQIA!

I mean the cops can still get access if they need to, right?

Thanks!

It's really not on is it? Feels like gaslighting because he said that Fab was not a private and secure platform.

Given that people rarely have enough personal info on profiles to identify them, I'd say despite any lack of encryption it would be hard for anyone to rationally justify pressuring someone for a mobile number, email address or any other contact mechanism.

It's about as anonymous as any Web contact site can be and you don't have to provide any proof of identity upon joining.

It's far more logical from a privacy point of view to keep all contact on here rather than offline, even if you have a burner phone or multiple email addresses.

Everyone has different comfort levels when it comes to the information they're willing to share, but as a general rule of thumb you should assume that anything you post on the internet is public, and permanent.

It's difficult to say how secure Fab is from a technical perspective without seeing the code that powers it, but again, never share anything you wouldn't want making public if you're worried. That's why some people won't readily share it display face pics, for example.

As for sharing mobile numbers, that's your call to make, but we personally don't, just because changing number if someone harasses you is a pain.

Hi. I was going to reply privately but I can’t so here goes.

Fab is as secure as any other site of this nature. Essentially if someone with the skills and knowledge really wanted to get in they probably could. What they would get information wise only Admin would be able to answer.

Larger companies like Facebook or google are undergoing attacks all the time so they have many more security measures in place. The biggest risk to your data here is you and what you share.

I am sorry you felt pressured to hand over a phone number. That is unacceptable. It’s very smart to have a burner number for This kind of thing. A recommendation is always save a contact. Even if it’s DNA for do not answer it saves you from speaking to people who may be abusive.

I hope your ok and if you want to chat I am here.

He needs reporting to the police no one should be pressured into doing anything, WhatsApp is encrypted as is Signal, Kik isn’t as large scale secure but it is more anonymous, if you are truly worried when using fab then you could always get a dual sim phone and have fab set up on the second number or use a second handset, just for your fab and emergency, I’m surprised more people don’t do this, it’s also a good way of separating your home work personal life, for instance I have a work phone a fab phone and a personal phone and they never meet, those old sayings never mix business with pleasure and you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family, also don’t forget to dob him in to the law, he might not of done anything illegal yet but sounds too pushy for his own good

If someone's so concerned about Fabs security they should use another platform.

He was pulling a fast one. And I'm sorry he pressured you.

I dont give my number to anyone on here I use kik.

Good idea to use a burner op.

I hope you don't let a Ratbag like him spoil your day x

When I was younger, I used to be gaslighted so much that my trust in people is shot to pieces.

At least I'm safer now, I pick it up quickly.

yeah changing number is a pain. I've had female friends who had to change theirs like 5 times in a year just from general harassment in real life, not from the online creeps.

Not sure if it's anyone's fault but this is the reason he gave and I gave my reason for feeling uncomfortable.

Could just be a clash of comfort?

But I'd rather safety for all.

thanks yes I've been getting too many unsolicited messages so I restricted my profile a bit until I get more settled back into it.

thanks for your input.

One of the hardest criminal things to report and evidence and document is coercive control. Also when you are in the non-vanilla community, some officers don't take you serious at all. That's how Stephen Port got away with hurting all those young men.

I've set in support group and listened to men and women who had been physically assaulted but too ashamed to report it to the police.

I'm not sure how much information I could give the police all I have is a number and a first name. I will let it rest for now but I might send a message to admin.

Secretive people give me the heebeejeebees.

You shouldnt of been pressured that not on. But essentially they have a burner number and an image, hopefully they have better things to do than be an ass...

Whatever your traits are and however the affect you I've really appreciated some of your responses in various threads.

You seem a pretty cool person imo...

thanks. Everyone needs to be safe so I thought I would post about it here as I've seen some privacy issues come up before around mobiles, emails and pictures. Also a few people have had bad in-person experiences from Fab.

Thanks. I'ma weird cool person. I only found out this year that I have autistic traits. I get that I might say and do things that upset other people but it's not intentional at all.

As you know from the threads, some people get their kicks from being a buttpain. But I don't give buttpains access to me. lol!

Plus there is strength in numbers. A lot of creepy people want to isolate you and keep you away from the collective voices on Fab.
