Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Tomorrow is WAD 2012.

The theme this year is "Getting to Zero". The focus is on the longer term vision of no new infections.

Rates are up amongst younger people. Please play as safe as you can and help to achieve the vision.

To those affected, keep up the fight.

Testing and drugs have come such a long way. It has been a while since I last attended an HIV related funeral. It isn't the death sentence it was once in this country but that is not true everywhere. Children are still growing up with parents because of this horrible virus.

Thinking of those who have lost their fight against this cruel disease, those who are still stigmatised for declaring their status and hope all heed the fact that no matter how careful it can still happen to you.

A good time to raise awareness as so many people still have their heads stuck in the 80s

Things have moved on and will continue to do so

I worked in HIV/AIDS in the 90s and spent a lot of time trying to put together safer sex messages.

Translation was a big issue and one leaflet ended up translating oral sex to verbal sex. Helpline calls asking how wearing a condom to talk about sex helped stop the virus!

Enjoy yourselves, everything is a risk but you can mitigate that risk. Testing is not the all clear to be reckless but it is better to know your status than not.

Talking about sex is probably the single thing which has made the biggest difference.

My dad's best friend who I call my uncle is HIV+. He has, ironically some may say, devoted his life to HIV and AIDs awareness.

Every time I have sex and use a condom I see that as protecting myself.

And there by the grace of God go we all.

It has nothing to do with God. Any God.
