Do you often think for example, I'm older than Hitler when he invaded Poland? Or as old as Fanny Craddock at the height of her fame etc ...and all you've ever done is visit Wales and bake the odd lasagne??

Haha, the end of that paragraph really tickled me for some reason. I do sometimes look at people in music/films/sport and think “when I was their age I was driving an Escort 1.3 and saving up for a 486 DX266 PC…

Life's too short to make your own lasagne

I've never baked lasagne

On my 62nd birthday my uncle rang me up to tell me I had now been alive longer than my grandmother who died at 61.

As for age comparisons, I often think I *am* 44, how on earth were you - looking at a profile on here - many years below me at school?

I'm not saying people age poorly, I'm saying they knock a decade off!

At least you visited a decent place and cooked some nice food.

I am old enough to be Joan of Arc's grandfather when she turned the course of a war at 17 and that of Augustus Ceaser when, at 20, he became a senator. But their lives were shorter in those days.

I more like to compare timelines. I love it and it blows my tiny feeble mind for some nonsensical reason. So for example, I was born in 1979 and that date is closer to the beginning of world war 2, than now is to when I was born. I'm always doing it with different things.

In the early 70s war was very much yesterday's news. We even had veterans from The Great War! Plus I once met a guy who had been in The Russian Revolution!!

That's superb. I remember as a young child speaking to family members and veterans of the World War 1. They were obviously old, but I don't ever remember thinking they were from a bygone age.

Also a remember the world oldest woman dying about 20/25 years ago. A French lady and there's footage of her not long before she died talking about meeting van Gogh. That always blew my mind.

It still amazes me that Tyson Fury is younger than me. He literally looks old enough to be my dad.

My dad died at 59. I always think if I die at his age, then I've only got just over 16 years left The last 16 years flew by and the years feel like they get quicker the older you get. Oh the joys. Completely with you on this one.

I remember Wayne Rooney bursting onto the scene at 16, scoring that goal against Arsenal on his Everton debut. Remember then thinking 'wow, who's this kid?' Crazy to think I ever saw Rooney as a kid, but he literally was then.

I know it's a cliché, but we have to try and live life to the full. Time goes far too quickly.

Congratulations on being a great granny too

I think when you see famous people have passed away that you grew up it makes you realise how old you are!

I’ve seen a lot of things, been to a lot of places and I’m living my best life within my cash limits…

I’ve found that who you are sharing these moments with are more important!

Finedon ,

I am the oldest person posting on this threat, That makes me feel really old.

I look at my two youngest Grandkids playing with their father and my mind goes back to 1946 when I met my father for the very first time on his return from the Pacific Theatre of WW2.

At least I only had to wait another 12 years before he could take me to a pub for my first Pint, Or so he thought

Talking about Fanny Craddock

On her cookery show many years ago she and her husband Johnny would cook cakes etc..

and one episode he ended the show saying

" I do hope all your donots turn out like Fanny's"..

Yeah, lives were definitely shorter when we burned people at the stake

Augustus Caesar lived to be 75, which we would probably still consider a reasonable age (although a fair bit below national average of mid 80s).
