Probably best nobody names anyone.

Firstly because it's against the rules and secondly because its horrible.

I don't think we should be naming anybody. It's a bit distasteful.

I reckon it's possibly this guy I spoken to under numerous different names, who describes himself as a domestic who can set up gangbangs, and when you chat with him he claims to know all these low budget British pornstars. And you think, okay, I'll play along, because if he's on the level I might get some amazing sex. And then he starts asking you to verify him - he's got loads of veris and as far as I can see they are all fake.

So I've blocked him several times over!

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that.”

We were chatting about this earlier and don't understand the thinking behind blocking forumites. We block loads of people who have contacted us and we don't want to continue being able to.

Blocking people for expressing opinions in the forums though seems pointless - it doesn't stop you seeing their posts and it doesn't stop them replying to yours.

Maybe we're missing something?

Mr

Same here. I find it a bit petty to be honest. I’ve never blocked a forumite.

I think you are missing something the whole point of the block is so that people cannot see your profile or send you any messages. If someone chooses to block so there are no messages exchanged that isn't petty or pointless at all.

We had someone ask us to block them today or he wouldn't leave us alone... not sure of the tactic, but we obliged the block for sure

I'm taking about other forum forumites with whom you've never exchanged private messages. I understand what blocking someone achieves, I'm saying I don't see the point using it to achieve a state that already exists.

I accept that it means these people cannot see your profile but again, beyond privacy issues, I don't see the point in that either. Why would I care if a random stranger from 200 miles away can see my profile?

Also, I didn't mention anything about it being petty.

Mr

Have you ever been scrolling through the comments on an ancient thread that has been resurrected, read a post and thought, ‘Christ, what a thing to say, I’m blocking them’ , only to then see that the poster was you.

No……… ah….right, just me then

It doesn't matter whether you see the point or not it is not pointless or petty for people to choose how they manage their own accounts. I can want to interact with someone publicly but not privately and that is perfectly acceptable and reasonable.

An unfortunately popular and productive forumite used to have a little hobby of commenting about something on my profile every time I posted so I blocked him to prevent that.

I've also blocked another forumite that I had exchanged a handful of messages with a few years ago.

Six months later her forum behaviour became unbelievably erratic and attention seeking and she was attacking people just for the sake of it so I also blocked her.

Six months after that she discovered she could no longer see my profile and started on a campaign of snide remarks on every post I made, accused me of being abusive towards her on threads that I had never contributed to and then switched tact and started asking random questions in unrelated threads as to why I had chosen to destroy our previously close friendship. (Bearing in mind my earlier comment about a total of 5 messages exchanged a year before).

Many reasons to block forumites including private messages and bipolar behaviour.
