Weekly Mental Health Check-in 05.09

Good morning all, how does the new week find you?

I’m mostly doing ok. I accessed a free webinar on anxiety last week. I went with the attitude that there probably wouldn’t be much it could teach me and whilst that proved to be the case, the info was put across in a way that really made sense to me and has been helpful - right down to the fact that the shakes I get in the morning come from the fact that our bodies naturally release adrenaline in the morning to set us up for the day, but if our levels are already high due to anxiety we’ll notice it a lot more. This has meant I’ve been able to be rational about the sensation rather than letting it get to me and reaching for the propanalol (I haven’t had one in days where I was taking them daily last week). I even felt well enough to work out for the first time in months on Saturday, but woke up yesterday and I’ve done something to my leg . Think I’ll forge ahead with some upper body stuff though later. I’m also fed up with my weight and have printed off a pic from last year to try and motivate me into making better food choices.

The kids are back at school and college today so I’ve got some routine back which always helps. I’m still not 100% but the anxiety is much lower level and drops again quickly after something upsets me.

How are you feeling today?

Lou, that webinar sounds fantastic. Great that it’s been helpful to you. I did follow your status updates on the workout . I hope you’re feeling ok? Good to push on with some upper body stuff. Finding that motivation to push you through is so important. Hope your kids have a good first half term back also!

I am feeling good today mentally. Although I haven’t felt really good for the last week! I am massively missing my gf and daughter who are on holiday without me. I find it so much easier when I’m the one away for work.

I have had lots of self esteem issues recently. Lots of rejection which has made that worse. But it’s one of those things, charge it to the game! Hopefully my luck picks up. I think my feelings about myself would appreciate that.

I’m sorry I missed the last check in- hope everyone has had good week and has another good week ahead! Until next week

I hope with the kids away you can have some hours to focus on yourself and in between other things focus on lowering your anxiety.. hope it goes well.

Do you meditate?

Hello you! and thank you x

I’m sorry you’ve been struggling but glad that today is a good day. I feel you on the self-esteem front, it’s so tough to change those old scripts in our heads I think. Wishing you a good week ahead too x

Thank you! I’ve dabbled since I did a six week course a couple of years ago. I recently bought Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Full Catastrophe Living that I’ve dipped into a little, going to sit and have an hour reading it now I think x

I’m sorry to hear that. The most frustrating thing about anxiety is that the only way to get over it is to accept it, and yet the way it makes us feel triggers a bigger fear response! I try to be kind to myself and acknowledge the fear and reason why and I imagine holding my own hand for comfort (sounds crazy but has helped me).

I hope it fades for you soon xx

My mental health gas took an absolute battering of late. But onwards and upwards. Don't have the time or able to afford feeling sorry for myself

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been struggling. Everybody copes in different ways, mental health issues can be just as debilitating as physical ones. I’m glad you were able to carry on x

Hey all. I'm not doing too badly today, found a book at the charity shop that I'll find useful, cleared out a bag of old school uniform and painted most of a bathroom

Hoping everyone is doing alright, even though it's Monday

My middle son used to suffer from anxiety and self doubt terribly. We got a worry doll (as daft as it sounds) and he'd talk to it and tell it what was bothering him at any particular time. I think he found it cathartic to get the words out knowing there wouldn't be any judgement.

I'm heading the webinar helped, do they put together anything else you can use?

It's a month of small errands and jobs, so playtime is on hold till October as adulting takes precedence, I have planned balance then so it will equal out

They do a special group that I think would be useful but it’s £40/mth and I can’t justify that atm with everything about to shoot up in price so I’ll manage for now!

Glad everything is planned out for the best! x

Hi Lou, hope you are well.

Iam on a waiting list to see a CPN but the list is nearly 2 years to wait.

In the meantime my ex has put a plan together for us to have sessions together..she is a trained councillor and we are going to keep it very much professional.

She does know about my background so we can get straight into things without me needing to explain what happened...which would probaly take 2 appointments haha.

Anyway hope you are continuing to improve.

And thanks for doing this

Goodness - although I can understand her wanting to help, if she’s trained she will know this is highly unethical and potentially harmful

Waiting times are awful and I’m sorry you’re struggling x

I think my anxiety from earlier this year contributed to my Alopecia Totalis. I just need to remain focused and p+sitive.

Thankyou, it really did. My 'outlet' was writing - I found if I wrote my frustrations down they seemed smaller somehow. Brains, eh? Bloody things!

Had a footy injury scare. Five a side so I scored a few and let some in. 2 4 1 at dominoes yesterday so overall I'm happy with my progress

I miss my 5 a side...although a Fab neighbour said we could have a kick about in a local park.
