Ghosted on the day of a meet (yayyy...). No friends are free so it's another Saturday night in by myself... All I wanna do is order pizza and B&J's but I've not been great with food this week so that's gonna make me feel worse, right?

I'm sick of playing video games and watching TV... What are some tips for avoiding comfort binges? How do you make the most of a night by yourself without running to chocolate?

I love nights alone, good job since all my nights are alone.

If I feel rubbish though, I'll work out to the point I'm sweating buckets.

Shower, glass of wine and go man hunting.

I appreciate the glass of wine is not the best when it comes to being healthy but, needs must.

I find brushing my teeth the most boring and tedious thing to do so, if I do it early evening, I know I'll not want to do it again that night and I'll not munch

Aw no

Having a cry can be release. How about a sad film and have a really good sob.

Comfort eating can be ok, if it's done mindfully.

I would make a lasagne, have a glass of wine and read a book in the bath.

Or, could you get creative? That might keep your hands and your mind busy. Maybe a jigsaw, or watch an art class online? I knit when I'm bored.

Sometimes it helps todo something and see a positive outcome. You’ll laugh at this but ironing works because you start off with a mess and within an hour it’s all neat. Also stops hands getting bored and eating.

Give your shoes a thorough clean, paint the bathroom door, shred some bills… anything where you can spend some time and see a benefit quickly

have a cry. If that's what your body wants to do, honour it. You may find there's some clarity after it.

Comfort eating and other stuff like that is about trying to find a high so you can ignore what's going on. Trouble is, what is going on doesn't go away. So you just end up chasing the highs.

Why are some people trying to encourage Amber to do exactly what she wants to avoid (bingeing)? That's really not helpful at all.

Amber, why don't you see if you can find something to occupy your mind and hands that isn't your video game? Maybe craft, drawing, upcycling, reading, crosswords, puzzles, DIY, anything like that? Or, if you have a bath, take a cup of tea or something and have a nice long bubble bath?

As far as food goes, I have things I adore and would devour that don't agree with me.

The only way to avoid it is to get the thought of how bad I'll feel afterwards properly front&centre and wedged in my brain to make it unappealing and find a better substitute.

Set yourself a goal in your mind or on paper. Maybe of how your knee might feel eased or whatever would be goal #1 for you. It's important to keep steps small and achievable and then just hop to the next one again and again.

PS you've dodged a bullet there, he has very kindly shown himself up and taken himself out to the bin to save you the hassle & heartache xx

It’s ok to cry, let that emotion out, crying is a healthy release.

Imagine waking up in the morning and feeling a little squint of pride that you didn't give the dickhead the time of day or headspace to be the reason you decide to eat something you have said you don't really want to eat.

"What are some tips for avoiding comfort binges? How do you make the most of a night by yourself without running to chocolate? "

After looking at my bank balance a good good few years ago I realised I was spending over £100 a week on burgers and junk food outside of my regular food shop, which was both shocking and unsustainable, so cut it on principle.

One thing I found was a craving for tomato sauce not the burgers. I still have it now (when I'm most tired), where I go through spates of lazy eating or covering things with the stuff but I am nowhere near spending what I was.

Some tips are apparently busying yourself for 5 minutes, having a drink as we usually eat when we're thirsty, removing apps that might tempt you, finding that trigger as explained above, having food defrosted or ready to cook on days you might usually feel lazy.

Brilliant OP even when feeling low you thought of others before yourself. It will come back to you, not when you expect it and probably in a way you'd least expect. But, you always always reap what you sow and you sowed love. That is a special thing when you are feeling low and could easily think of yourself first.
