Solihull and Brentwood

Value for money: South Africa, Cape Town or Durban.

More closer to home: Perhaps the Canaries, or something more exotic, Seychelles, or Mauritius perhaps. Neither of each I've been to, but always wanted to, along with Japan. Jmho.

My dad used to say that the birds have more sense than we have, they fly South for the winter, and come back here when it warms up. The cheapest weeks to do The Canary islands are last fortnight in November, and first fortnight in December, which is why I've got Tuarito Princess all inclusive in Playa Taurito booked for the 3rd to the 17th December for winter sunshine. Trust me, it's as good as it gets.

Sign up as a mercenary temporarily and visit the historical cities of Kabul, Tripoli and Baghdad. Come back with cash a tan and a nasty rash from the other squaddies

Ho Chi Minge City

I was in Mexico last month and going to Dominican Republic early October for a bit. Then spending January in Cape Town because it’s mid summer then and probably cheaper than paying heating bills here in the winter!

Better than snow, wind and rain! Anywhere in particular you like or just the country in general?

It's location is somewhat unique as the hotel grounds actually incorporate the headland that looks into Puerto Mogan harbour which is the most photographed harbour in the Canary islands. The Western sunset going down over the ocean is spectacular especially with a cocktail before dinner, and every room has a sea view. There is also a choice of restaurants on certain themed nights with no extra charge, but you have to book early as they run out of space quickly. You can also for a small extra charge get a fillet steak for two, or lobster. It's only drawback is that the coastal road actually collapsed, and to get to Puerto Mogan and possibly take a boat trip down the coast you have to take the courtesy bus to Puerto Rico, and then the service bus to Puerto Mogan, but that's not too much inconvenience. There's a lot more information I can give you about Playa Taurito, and I've yet to meet someone disappointed with the place.

Mauritius if you can stand the mind numbing tedium of the long flight.

The Emirates are good fun but not very relaxing or that might be the things I got up to.

Mexico is always amazing and can be done on a variety of budgets.

Or push the boat out and go Saint Bart’s.

I did 10 days on the east coast of Sicily for Christmas/New Year a few years back. The NYE party in the piazza was incredible..like nothing I've ever experienced before and apart from one day of rain, the weather was just bloody gorgeous

Jul to Dec is hot.

That's what I was told when I was there.
