Are you planning to take it down? No didn't think so.

If I was planning to take it down though, I'd go out and say oh I'm replacing that next week, you might want to hold off on the painting.

Only the owner of the fence may make any changes to it, even where the other side of the fence is on neighbouring property. This means that if you erect a fence in your garden, your neighbour must ask for permission before painting or staining their side of it. Similarly, they may not grow trailing plants up it or any similar activity which may cause it damage.

It's a bit awkward depending on your neighbour.

In an ideal world they'd knock the door and say "d'you mind?" And you'd say "not at all!" Then they'd do a fantastic job and you all live happily ever after.

But in reality you'd probably say yes all the while hoping they don't pick a vile colour and make a dog's dinner of it all over your side too. Then there'd be debate over ownership since they'd 'maintained' it and they'd be half-inching a few inches of your property line whilst they're at it.

It's in the papers every other week ffs, people are hard work sometimes/usually/mostly

Exactly. Our neighbours painted their side of our fence without permission, and the cheap, white watery paint dripped though to our side. I wouldn't have minded if they done a tidy job, now I feel like I have to paint our side again. Can't really be arsed, but it looks quite untidy.

Ha ha this sounds like my neibours years ago commenting when I was painting fence I heard her say what scrapy bit of paint she using! Not sure who's fence it is it's still there bright blue! X
