Marriage Pact

Did you ever make a marriage pact? You know where you say if you're not married by a certain age, you'd marry each other?

Has anyone actually married their friends because of the pact?

I found one in my school leavers book that said if I'm not married before I'm 40, my friend Lucy would marry me. I've been married but I'm not now so does that still count?

.

Yes I did. Even signed it with a bloodprint.

So I guess it's pretty much a done deal, hoping I'm married before then though.

Oh yeah, that's serious. No getting out of that one.

It still counts if you are not legally married at midnight on the day of your 40th birthday.

I'm an expert at birthday fine print. Hope Lucy has a nice penis!

On a mooch

I did with my male best mate. Neither of us have been married and when the date rolled around we both said ‘are you nuts, we don’t do marriage’ ….. the perfect answer

My age was 30, my mate and I were both unmarried but were kinda not into marriage so we just drink together.

Which is the bedrock of all good marriages anyway.

We said if not married by 90. I don’t think we thought it through properly tbh.

You could be "not married" together.

A friend of mine made a pact to marry a guy when they were both 50 if they were still single. He married someone else at 49 and she was furious

I did with my bestest bestest friend Rupert. The bastard reneged on the deal and has shacked up Rag Dolly Anna in the tree house

Nope I've never had a desire to be married. Even begrudgingly got married to make things easier when the kids came along. I'd have been quite happy unmarried for life. I just don't get the marriage/ wedding thing. *shrugs*

Yes I made one with my ex that became my fwb, I moved away to Wales and 4 years later she asked me to get back with her. Seemed like a great idea but she then got cold feet and I had to move back to Wales. She then had the cheek to ask me to move back again a couple of weeks months later.

I think that pacts have to adapt to changes in what's possible, including marriage equality and circumstances

I can recall (very vividly) being with 2 best friends (at the time, no largely estranged) on the last day of school, and agreeing to meet in that same place in 25 years, how we'd see who had the nicest house or the best car etc. Of course we never did it, and I often wonder if any of them ever recalled any of it at all ever again like I did. hashtag wistful melancholy
