The US Want To Blow Up The Moon To Scare The Red Out Of The Communists?

On the news and papers today there is a story that the United States of America had planned a mission to blow up the moon in the 1950s. The intention was, apparently, to spook the Soviet Union and have them believe that we could do much worse to them.

According to these reports, this project was called “A Study of Lunar Research Flights,” or “Project A119” for short. The Soviet Union had just launched their first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, into outer space. Blowing up the moon would have been the best in one-upmanship.

Blinking bomkers or what!!!

I can't believe that. Even the yanks would have known about the tidal effects the moon has on the Earth. The film that has most unnerved me is the one where the moon splits in half. I could imagine having to halves of the moon up there instead of one whole one.

Edward Teller wanted to crack open the moon to study it's interior...this may have been where the story came from.

He also wanted to use a nuclear warhead to excavate a new harbour in Alaska !

They didn't want to actually destroy the moon. They wanted to produce an explosion visible on Earth. Everyone had crazy idea's during the cold war.

I read this some weeks ago and thought yep there nobs and there in the government what where they reading from in there meetings .. Superman comics " lets blow the moon up that will scare the shit out of them"
