Cheese.

Plant menu Hotdogs and koftes (Aldi)

Quorn chicken nuggets

Linda McCartney burgers

Richmond meat free sausages

But most veggie recipes are great if you just use things like Jackfruit, Chickpeas and other beans, lentils and stuff like that. The above are my lazy options that bang.

It depends if you want meat substitutes or things that don't taste like meat. I prefer the latter.

But it has the V on it

And says suitable for vegetarian.

That’s cheating?

Most stuff you get in a supermarket uses plant based rennet as it's cheaper. It's only really pecorino/parmesan you need to watch out for.

I actually didn’t know that.

But I did know I couldn’t eat Parmesan and haven’t eaten it since I went veggie - my veggie mate gave me a run down

Bombay Bad Boy Pot Noodle. But you must use all the chilli sauce sachet and a good few splashes of Tobasco sauce (also vegetarian) as well.

I'm not a vegetarian, quite the opposite in fact. But I could live on BBBPNs for a while if I had no choice.

I like lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans and the bonus is they are really cheap. Mix with some fresh veg, tin of tomatoes, herbs or spices and you have a tasty meal. Tinned coconut milk in a curry is delicious too.

Lol!

I'm always suspicious of highly processed factory "pretend meat" versions of food. The additives alone are slightly too much for me.

I can't get my head around Quorn and I'd rather have a mushroom and aubergine/eggplant curry than a Quorn curry.

I've had jackfruit and that seems a suitable alternative.

I'm surprised no one mentioned falafel burger but I'm a foodie so that might be why.

Mushroom and aubergine would be my go to as I can't have too much cheese as it spikes my cholesterol.

Mushroom and aubergine do well in a Bolognese-type tomato based sauce.

I suppose it all depends on the reasons for being vegetarian.

I never could get on with pot noodle and I dear not serve that to my Caribbean parents. We've got a Japanese version in my posh supermarket workplace. My parents would have ramen packet noodle but I had to have Caribbean seasoning.

Pot Noodle used to be a Golden Wonder brand; when I was a teenager they were quite acceptable as a snack. The brand is now owned by Unilever who reformulated them into something completely different; I only like the BBB one now. Well, they've got a new Doner Kebab version which I'm also quite partial to.

I like "proper" ramen/miso noodles but they're often bloody expensive for what they are even in supermarkets. I can't remember the brand but there used to be a lovely "Tom Yum" version that you could just throw some cooked prawns and a boiled egg into to make a proper meal.

Non-vegetarian, of course.

Well, my cholesterol was high, so I spent a year avoiding meat and cheese, and going more and more veggies/pescatarian. My cholesterol improved, but then, almost as a by product, I actually found the thought of eating meat to be wrong, and I try to avoid it more and more now

I have a love haye relationship with tofu

When it's crispy it's lovely but sometimes I can be a bit 'wet' and it turns my stomach

Oooh I'm going to add chilli paneer. One of the few vegetarian starters I will purposely choose!

Try scrambling it and frying it until it goes crispy. The texture goes very chewy and mince-like, it's delicious.

Also puffed tofu is amazing but I can't figure out how to make it at home

I don't like it chewy

I only eat it when I go get it from a restaurant cause sometimes I just can't cope with the texture

I grew up in the Caribbean so meat was like a once a month thing or special occasion. Chicken and fish was mostly what everyone ate.

The ones that are left on the shelves that nobody wants that are reduced for quick sale at Morrisons are always the tastiest. Also if you get them on a Thursday night, they make a good cheap dinner for a Friday if you still don't eat meat on a Friday for religious reasons.
