Wondered if anyone ever had issues with gambling?

I've won big but also lost big. Luckily never been in debt but whenever I need some money I tend to get sucked into.. oh I know I could win it

I begrudge losing a quid on a scratchcard... However, many, many long moons ago. I had an ex that was in debt to the tune of 80k in gambling. He was extremely fortunate (I guess) in that he was in the position that his parents bought his house from him to clear his debts, free up a bit extra?... His reaction to this? Yep, he kept on gambling

The crazy/sad thing was he didn't even care? I think it got to the point where what was another £200 frittered? In the grand scheme... Mental!

Having worked in the industry for 2 years in a previous job it definitely opened my eyes. I saw customers self ban themselves from shops then try to come back in. I have been involved in a fight, ex colleagues had been held up at gun point and I've had customers playing the machines in tears trying to get their rent money back. I've also seen someone put £20 in the machines and walk out with £500 in their pocket. I had regular customers bring us ice cream, strawberries occasionally a packet of biscuits to share while we discussed the sports of the day.

Personally I'll occasionally get a lucky dip, maybe a scratch card. Might put a couple of £ on the grand national but that's it. I only spend money I can spare having seen what it can do to people.

The industry as a whole needs to do more to help make it accessible to talk about gambling issues and where to get help. Those fixed odds betting terminals are the only reason shops are open late and put the staff single staffing late at night at risk with the amount of money they can hold.

It's an addiction as strong as drugs in my humble opinion. But even more acceptable than alcoholism. Its a very frightening thing! My ex sent me home one night with literally the home modem in a parcel to post back to him... I obviously stated you've lost a hold of it by this point? But he fully believed that was him being 'responsible'... Just sad/horrific

Never had a issue only ever fruit machines or the grand national.

I know people who would be classed has professional gamblers,either poker or fruit machines.They do earn a good living from it.

But they pretty much get banned from pub chains/adult arcades,just because they know what/when the machine will payout.

I do gamble pretty regularly,but only to my means. I think of it as a treat as I don't smoke or drink much and live a decent life. I also worked in the industry for nearly 12 years, I saw people come in and gamble their joint retirement savings funds away in the space of a few weeks. It can be addictive if your not strong minded to stop when you know when to.

Vegas is obviously well different to the uk wouldn’t you agree

I've literally just landed back from a ten day holiday in Vegas yesterday, gambling is gambling regardless of where you are,set your limits,stick to your limits,if you win happy days,if you lose NEVER chase your losses

It is all well and easy never to bet when you are angry etc and do not chase losses as that is when mistakes are made with rational judgement,But in the heat of the moment most of them go out the window if you have that sort of personality and can easily be done as I have on numerous occasions.It is when I have a big hit which annoys me more rather than your £40 win or ew and especially when you pay for info and you know you could do better.I am in the last chance saloon as it is with info now and all promise you everything but fail to deliver.Best advice is take your own pick and you can blame yourself rather than someone else.Good Luck
