Just curious as to how people make friends as an adult? Especially when you move to a new city? I know there’s groups for hobbies etc but they can be so expensive. Asking for a friend

I think the only people I've been able to befriend are work colleagues but those friendships usually fizzle out when you change jobs...or in my case they did

Work (school), clubs, hobbies etc.

With the rise in social media and apps you can try and connect with people on them. But there is a lot of ghosting!

It's extremely difficult. As you say clubs etc can be costly and people tend to stay in their friendship group anyway.

I've made friends well acquaintances really, friendship is a way off yet, by going to free events that I wouldn't normally attend.

Social media is a fairly good place to look out for these things. You could also start up a group, suggesting coffee somewhere, all welcome. I think you'd be surprised how many are in the same position.

I think it's one of the most difficult things you can do in life. I rarely see the people I consider to be my actual friends anymore. We still get together for Christmas, birthdays etc but that's it. We are all just at different stages of our lives.

Haven't really ever filled the gap so do a lot of activities solo. Thankfully I enjoy my own company.

I enjoy my own company. Me along with my immediate family is enough, friends normally turn out to be total wankers in the future.

After a long term relationship ended years ago, I found myself quite isolated with not many friends around me.

I joined local online forums and got chatting to some of the regulars. Became quite familiar with a group of them after a while.

Started have meet ups at pubs and nights out. Great times.

Meetup app is a great way to meet new people with similar interests. There are groups all over the country or you can host one of your own.

A wide range of interests from book clubs to social nights, hillwalking, music etc etc.

Most are only £10 a year or a couple of quid every time you turn up.

I made some friends from volunteering or have a look at meetup ,there's loads of groups and interests covered on there.

We had a free choir until Covid ended it.

This i would say, one good thing social media i.e. FB is good for local groups to ask abaout, join, meet etc with like minded people (non fab obvs haha)

For those brave enough, seek and yee shall find (thats NOT a holy reference)

As an adult a lot of the fiends I have made have been through my children, other parents at the school gates. I also joined a book group which was good. When I first moved away from home it was before I had kids so the only way i made friends then was through work.

More recently I am lucky enough to have made some true friendships through fab

Goggle your local area and see what there are any free local activity groups you could join or you could try a local adult education courses some are free I think.
