Metallica or Megadeth?

Back in the day, I favoured Metallica but did really enjoy Megadeth’s 1992 album, Countdown To Extinction.

Nowadays, I enjoy them both, although the earlier albums.

Disclaimer…..just a bit of fun, not meant to divide and conquer

I liked a few songs from Megadeth, but I found Dave’s vocals to be inferior.

Metallica here too, although nothing really good since 91’s black album, I would say though that Mustane has stayed truer to his roots….. it’s actually a tough call, but yeah early Metallica for me

Megadeth by choice but likes both. Metallica came over more often so we’re easier to see.

Metallica with Dave mustaine in is best, but enjoy both Megadeth and kirks Metallica too. Tho Dave's vocals ain't great tbh. Hell of a guitarist tho

Madness to even ask. God level v noisy workout at Basingstoke working man’s club.

Metallica.

I used to like megadeth. Right up to realising mustaine is a card carrying GOP bigot political nazi wanker.

Metallica all the way.

Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman are probably two of the greatest songs ever written.

That said, given all the different versions of "Nothing Else Matters" it's hard to pick the best one lol

With regards the politics i don't think much in it really between the 2 singers of the bands. (Hetfield is into trophy hunting and is pro torture as regards american foreign policy also.)

So, for me, going by music alone, I think "rust in peace" is probably the best megadeth album and i think "& justice" is the best metallica album, but i personally like rust in peace more.

So I'd vote megadeth.

(I saw megadeth on the rust in peace tour -& pantera opened for them.)

Megadeth for me. They managed six banging albums, whereas Metallica were only properly good for four.

Metallica by a long way

Seen them live 7 times

Met them twice

Building a replica of the famous 90s drum kit

I do like Megadeath but I'd rather listen to Machine Head, Slayer, Slipknot etc

You know when someones personality over shadow's anything they do?

Its that for me with both bands.

Bunch of misrable whiners my opinion of course.

After reading motley crues book the hate between those bands is hilarious.

"Imagine how good Metallica could have been if Cliff Burton hadn't died, Sepultura for me after discovering Schizophrenia"

I have often pondered that very same 'what if?' question if Cliff had lived and also if Mustaine had stayed...

Of course both bands have had stellar careers, especially Metallica. But the mind boggles at what could have been.

Newsted is an amazing bassist but Cliffs best work was Orion on master of puppets . Such a shame Cliff died when he did

Master of puppets is one of the best albums ever. Every track is a winner.

I love Metallica but I WISH Vinnie Paul from Pantera had played drums for them instead, god rest his bones... that would have been class. As a drummer I'm not a fan of Lars when he plays slow. early stuff is incredible though.

"Neither....SLAYER!"

Easily one of the most powerful live bands I have ever experienced. A difficult choice of Clash of the titans @ docklands arena (destroyed by Slayer and Sepultura) London Astoria (RIP), Download, Odeon wiping the floor with Slipknot. All were amazing gigs.

Friedman any day of the week!!!

And Megadeth over Metallica, as a guitarist the dream team albums are tough to top.

That being said, neither once the newer stuff is involved. Newest albums i listen to are Cryptic Writings for Megadeth and Puppets for Metallica

Not really ever got into either of them and of the 2 the only one I have ever seen live was Megadeth.

They were 4th down on the bill (above Guns'n'Roses though) and the only standout moment was them doing a cover of 'Anarchy in the UK' by the Sex Pistols.
