When we was kids in the 70s our street was ruled by elderly women called old mother this, old mother that. Where's their successors these days?

I was thinking something like this earlier in the week. My man’s neighbours were all like that, and when my Nan and gramp were looking after me we’d pop in for a cup of tea. They’d be sat there, the women like Hilda Ogden (one had the same head scarf and rollers look) gossiping about someone and the men all seemed a bit like Andy Capp when they stood chatting over the hedge.

Lucky if a neighbour says hello to you these days.
