I think I was a bit older. I think I watched the Baz film when I was about 13 after reading the play. I’ve seen a few films of it but never seen it on stage

I had to watch this in secondary school. I'd say I was around 14.

I was twelve when I first read it. I love Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet, and his sonnets are my favourite of his works. “Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again.” Just beautiful!

I was about this age too. Read it for GCSE. The film with Fassbender was decent too. But isn’t it brutal for 14/15 year olds

Stop that this instant. I won’t stand for Romeo and Juliet hate! All tragic love stories are preventable.

I have always loved a bit of brutal reading though and love Shakespeare ... I really actually just want to see A Midsummer Nights Dream at The Globe!

We did Macbeth, Julius Ceaser and A View from the Bridge.

Not particularly a fan of theatre and, despite being good at it, (straight A's) definitely not a fan of English Lit in general. It seemed to me like a long winded way of discussing the bloody obvious that took away any and all pleasure there was to be gained in reading/watching the the damn thing.

I was raised reading the King James version of the Bible from about the age of three so found Shakespearean language second nature and got bored of endless class discussions with the teacher trying to explain the simplest of sentences which put me right off.

La la land

I've not read the book, have done Macbeth and a midsummer's night dream. Can't say I'm a fan on Shakespeare in all honesty.

But I did adore the film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, the poster was up on my wall when I was an undergraduate.

It's the most irritating of plays. The melodrama annoys the hell out of me. I read it at school, I was maybe 14/15. I would never choose to watch a movie or theatre version. Any other Shakespeare over it!

I re-read my post and it comes across as being a bit boastful but wasn't meant to be. I knew what I was expected to do and didn't struggle to do it (hence my grade reference) I just found it boring. Shakespeare's plot lines are plodding and pretty simple, he is a reasonable observer of human behaviour but I just don't see genius in his work unless it is in being able to package semi complex ideas in short sections of dialogue.

Ha, the most common comment on my reports was "could do better if he applied himself" I'm just glad I went to school at a time when grades were exam based and very little coursework. Exams are easy - you only need to work for an hour or two, I was way too lazy to be a swat

Haha, mine was she knows the answers she keeps writing the wrong ones though! How school didn't see my dyslexia beats me. Exams were my worst nightmare, hence when it got to writing essay style questions I was fine.
