Time to think of others. Time to spend with family.

I usually have to be home alone to care for my pets so I'm looking forward to spending Christmas with my parents this year.

Christmas means more to people with children and/or young relatives, I think.

Time to moan about folks who celebrate Christmas, then spend the whole year slagging of Christians (....!)....BUT then remembering that at least it's a time of year when most folks are at least nicer to each other - so it's not all bad! Ahhhh....! Annnnnd relax!

For me Christmas is about family time together, doing ordinary family things like playing some games, watching some old DVDs etc and inviting other people to the house that we dont see very often, including a couple of people who would be on their own otherwise. From my own cultural background it is neither a time to drink excessively nor to have parties, it is very much a quietish yet joyful occasion if that makes sense.

I meant received as in what you have inferred about it via your family, friends, community, culture ....

As in _phrodite's reply. Sorry for not being clear.

Christmas and New Year mean family time for me. I like to be with my family in a warm house, good food, talking, playing family games, being together. I isn't a time for drinking excessively or going to parties either for me.

I personally couldn't go to swinging clubs on New Years Eve. When that clock chimes 12 I want to be with the ones I cherish most in the world.
