I have never once been asked for ID to check into hotel in this country. I didn't even know that was a thing.

Northampton

You only tend to need ID if you are paying with cash

It happened to me the last time I was in Manchester. Luckily they allowed me to stay without ID.

Willenhall

Usually a (smaller) hotel will want ID if you are paying on arrival (i.e. cash or debit card).

This is so they can bill you for things like damages, PPV, shitting in the lift etc.

I've been asked for it a few times, usually when checking in. It's quite common.
