Has anyone had a ticket when on a major road with risdworks and average speed cameras going mile after mile and if so, what was the limit and what was the speed you were said to be travelling at?

I always thought it was 3 mph and 10 percent then you are fined so 50 would be 58, 70 would be 80 etc

The answer to your question is, every county is different. It is usually about 20% above the stated speed limit but I know mates who have been done, doing 33 in a 30. So it is better to stick to the limit stated

Several years ago I was caught on cam doing 33 in a thirty limit and got fined and points on my licence so the 3+10° didn't apply then

That 10% tolerance relates to the tolerance on the speedometer. When I was on a speed awareness course, we were told that the limit + 10% was a myth.

I have no clue really but I don’t want to do another course

by the big field

The M1 has a 26 mile stretch of roadworks..26 bloody miles! with just a few sections having active works.

Then in the middle of it, they sneakily reduce the limit from 60 to 50 for no apparent reason for a few miles, just a single round speed sign in the mass of other signs...and increase the camera count- i'm sure its all for safety reasons

Never and I’ve definitely be speeding inadvertently at times. Happens with a car like mine, trust me.

You can check what the local force prosecution policy is by the way with a quick Google.

I drive between 55-60 in average speed limit areas of 50mph in Newport. Been doing so since October last year when I started my new job. Not had a fine, warning etc. I suppose it depends on the camera locations, some areas may be stricter than others.

I was caught at 60mph in a stretch of 50mph roadworks.

Just prior to the roadworks, there’s was a 60mph limit imposed. I missed the signs that lowered it to 50mph, and just carried on at 60mph.

Bang to rights, took my medicine, paid the fine.

They were my only endorsement points on my licence.

There’s a reason limits are 30 and not 40

In certain places so fair enough. Live near village with 30 and full of wankers driving through at 40 or higher.

Yes pal wankers got caught doing 58 in a 50 and if it’s your first offence they will give you a speed awarness course aslong as it’s within 10 percent of the speed limit

Different police forces have different thresholds for speed.

Some are indeed 10% plus 3mph. Some less so.

Just make sure that in average speed camera zones you drive in the fast lane at all times, do the speed that you want and whenever you're driving past one of the cameras ensure that there's a high sided, long articulated truck to your left to block your car from the camera.

You can the drive whatever speed you want Tom - trust me!

60% of the time it works every time......

If you doubt the speed difference between what your Speedo is telling you and what you are actually doing take a look at a gps on a satnav

Usually around 10%

I have a house on the edge of a village that doesn’t have a pavement so the kids have to walk along the road to school in the village. It is a 30 limit and the council won’t put in a pavement for the few houses that are affected despite being asked many times.

Increasingly people are ignoring that limit and several have been done for speeding along a road that has kids in it.

I appreciate it is a pain but when you have seen how close and fast people drive when others are in the road then you would give them more than points.

It is a proper issue - I live on a countryish road which has connection to a major road and they fly down at 60 odd because they don’t realise its 30 ( and they’re twats obviously!!) because 60 just isn’t sensible given the road conditions - its only a matter if time before one loses it and smashes into a garden or into the ditch on the other side.

Sort of similar here and where I live we get a crash every 6 months or so. Been hit myself by somebody speeding around a bend. Apart from you causing a crash you might get get caught up in one the and faster you are going the less likely you are to avoid the problems and others. So if in in 30 limit, stick to it and if you get caught just suck it up as you are in the wrong.

The actual answer is that there is ZERO leeway, but individual policing areas apply a discretionary buffer to their prosecution threshold. This is not a right, and any speed over the set limit IS breaking the law.

Speedo's in cars generally tell you you're going faster than you are, this is easy to see when you have a SatNav on... this is a deliberately tactic from manufacturers to prevent being sued.

Where ever I lay my hat

Normally set the cruise control to 54 in 50 zones and 65 in 60 zones and never had a ticket. The myth about them having 10% leeway etc is exactly that, a myth. You can be caught if you are just 1mph over. Now that's unlikely but having had to do a speed awareness course a while back they made a big point of it. A lot of folks on my course had been caught doing 22 or 23 in 20 zones so be careful there.
