M has been doing some pictures (not of me) anyway put his compact flash card in the reader for transfer and back in camera, a pin had come loose and got stuck in the card.

He didn't realise and put it back in the camera, bent the camera pins internally so broken his 2 month old £3,500 camera

Now commiserating...

At 2 months, the warranty should be valid.

For a gadget that expensive, always take out one or an extended warranty.

Have done this myself in the past - a pair of very thin long nosed pliers and you can often straighten the pins perfectly fine - I did it two years ago and 100k pics later still fine. Hope you can sort it though!

CF cards may be fast, but the pin design is horrendous. Doesn't help that the card reader was crap. Bollocks bollocks bollocks.

The camera can be used, because it also has an SD card reader, but it's significantly slower. It'll do for tomorrow's shoot though.

Argh!!!!

This is one reason I try never to take the card out unless swapping it for an empty one, down load all pics from the camera via usb lead.

They can be bent back just got to be careful, put the camera down walk away have a beer or two enjoy the rest of the night and then tackle it tomorrow with a clear head and a calm mind.

I need to swap it regularly, because both of my cards regularly fill up during a shoot.

I have two Pro Nikon DSLRs and use a Sandisk reader - more expensive but better built. The pin problem I ha before was exactly the same cause as yours but was a cheap reader!

I do a lot of Motorsport photography (just a (serious) hobby for me, but have had a few published and supply to a couple of drivers websites), so can get through a lot of cards, so am changing them all the time.

As was mentioned earlier, just get some Class 10 SD cards, cheap as chips and whilst not as fast as CF, you're unlikely to be machine-gunning it on a location shoot.

Bent/broken pins aren't usually that expensive to get fixed, if you can't do it yourself.

My 5D Mk II took a dive off a table a few weeks ago but fortunately it was insured. They offered me a Mk III but I preferred the Mk II anyway, so got another one of those.
