Skin checking

I've always had some freckles and moles, but have a few that I'm going to have checked, its why I've been pushing myself outside so i can see the doc.

So seeing as this weather over the last few weeks has peeps possibly basking in the rays I'm just writing a little friendly thread to remind peeps to keep an eye on their skin

Good point, well made. The sun and I have a mutual hatred of each other. I am concerned though about the number of times I got sunburnt as a child and how much I caned the sunbed in my late teens/early twenties. Yikes!

I think it's good for single people to get friends to check their backs regularly. We can be blissfully unaware how something may be changing.

Have them take some pics too

I used to have friends lol now it's not quite the same trying to look with two mirrors

It's not just freckles and moles...

I've had Basal cell carcinoma, and that started off as a flat white mark (thought it was a tiny scar) when then became a small lump, started itching and was like a little crater, would crack and bleed.

2 GPs told me it was nothing to worry about and I only got a referral because one said he'd been caught out before with something similar. I already 100% knew it was skin cancer.

Dermatologist took one look and confirmed it!

I had mohs surgery to cut it out, she said I was one of the youngest patients they'd had. It was nodular infiltrative BCC, if it had been left it would have spread.

So if you are really concerned, push for a referral.

This is also a message Black and Brown people should note. We are less likely to be believed, as our risk are different and GPs don't recognise it.

Check your feet, including the soles and between the toes, and look for raised scaly patches - not quite a mole but not a scab.

Good reminder and I will also have a friend check my back as it’s harder for me to see properly there.I’ve very fair sensitive skin, burned badly as a kid and have moles. I’m usually good at keeping an eye but no harm in being more thorough right?

Using factor 50 at the moment too

I had the same experience, almost exactly.
