I feel like we’re in a privileged position compared to many, but despite my husband earning what I’d consider a decent wage, we still struggle for money at times for various reasons.

My 18yr old son had surgery cancelled this week so I decided it might be nice to take him away since our last holiday (also UK) was two years ago and he’s desperate to go somewhere. I’m now feeling completely rubbish because everything was out of our budget. I remember when UK holidays used to be what you did if you didn’t have a lot of money, but now it feels like they’re also only accessible to the well off. I genuinely have no idea how anybody affords a holiday these days - and I’m aware that many don’t and also aware that I’m lucky to not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from, but it’s something that has upset me, so whilst filled with gratitude for what we do have, I can’t help my feelings over this. It’s also not helped by seeing and hearing about so many other people’s holidays!

Things will improve. It will take time, but prices will stabilise and people will be able to travel again.

Things are manic at the moment. Truly manic. I managed to get some leave in October and a UK break is all I want as I am all flown out, lol. Flying is so stressful at the moment- and that is from a work perspective, can’t imagine what it is like as a passenger!

I always found day trips a very nice alternative to a full holiday.

We've always found going abroad is cheaper than staying in the UK. We book things ourselves, no package deals and look away from the main tourist areas.

We've flown several times in recent months and apart from shambolic disability "assistance" in Manchester, it was absolutely fine.

So, if you can afford a short foreign break, it might be worth it?

I agree UK stuff is massively overpriced and frankly I couldn't think of anything worse than fighting through hoardes of people at a British seaside resort etc.

British holiday prices have always been a bit high but since the pandemic they have skyrocketed. Personally I don't bother with holidays anymore my passport expired in 2012 not bothered to renew it. Most overseas package holidays may seem cheep but it cost as much as a UK holiday in the endd
