King's Crustacean

Has anyone else been to see this abysmal pile of shite, this feeble attempt at being arty and mysterious, this absolutely ludicrous , embarrassing , bewildering 2hrs and 15 mins of dross to eat your poppets to ?

I'll with hold my opinions on it until others give theirs.

You can afford poppets at the cinema?

Or did you go gangsta and smuggle some pre-bought snacks?

Please no spoilers!!!! I’m going to see it.

Looked good enough from the trailer, and I like the director.

What I think I enjoy with his films is he sets the scene really well for me. Gets it all intense and the suspense is right up there.

I genuinely liked it, and certainly not as terrible as I imagined after being involved slightly in this thread.

Watched it last week. Disappointed to be honest. I have a feeling that he doesn't spend much time on the writing. I loved Get Out. Us was fine. Nope was disappointing. In all the films, he has a good plot and setting. He also does really well in direction. But the writing in the last 2 films have been lazy.

Mi give a lot of credit to the direction, the actors and the even the cameraman and editing for the suspense he does throw at you with little dialogue.

I am critical to the point of, they never reach the crescendo I want, but that’s hard with suspenseful horrors with me, But lazy writing isn’t the problem. I think he actually puts effort and thought into it.

We are all different I guess

** Spoilers for Us **

The whole mirror tethered idea didn't make much sense. I did enjoy watching the film. But when I came out and thought about it, everything seemed illogical. Even if we ignored the questions around how the tethered society survived down there for so long, the whole idea about the girl going in at such a small age and figuring out how to lead such a big group is unbelievable. If she was that clever, couldn't she have just escaped much earlier?

Again, I enjoyed that film, thanks to plot twist and great direction. But not a film I would rate as high as Get Out.

I feel like when you’re applying logic to films that float between the horror/thriller genre then you’re bound to be disappointed with most films.

Get bout was great, I enjoyed it but also incredibly unrealistic. I think lots of people, not you necessarily, put Get Out on a pedestal because of what a great social commentary on racism it was and expected that from Us. Us was a good film with great performances. It was better than most of the other highly rated horrors/ thrillers of our time.

Every film builds its own logical universe with a set of rules. People don't question why some characters are defying gravity in Matrix or superhero films because the rules in the universe they built is different and they explain it well. Same with horror films based on supernatural existence.

With Us, there wasn't a clear explanation around what the tethered society is. There is a mention of a government project. But that's about it. It's fine if there are multiple explanations for a plot element and the story doesn't explain what it is. But it was hard to come up with any explanation in this plot.

Us is still highly rated. Get out is rated much better because the plot was straightforward and there weren't major plotholes.

"Jordan Peele is a genius and I won’t hear anything else.

Get out and Us are two of the greatest films of our time and I’m only 50% saying that for the reasons you think

I agree with this 100%. I love Get Out and Us, and thought Nope was brilliant too. I get that everyone's different, but if someone hated Nope as much as the OP did, I'd suggest reading a review or 2 before your next cinema trip "

Pffffft! and I'd suggest that you make yourself aware of the fact that we didn't set out to see NOPE ..... before you assume what ever it is you are assuming ......
