One of the things that has always amused me and frustrated me in equal measure is how threads can become so tangential from the OP. Sometimes because of random posts, sometimes because people just don’t read the OP properly.

So own up, who reads threads completely and digests the topic thoroughly, and who just looks at the title, has a quick skim of the OP then just posts whatever they’re thinking?

Read what OP has to say and try and work out if being serious or not. Read others post and always try to answer to OP's original comment.

Depends on the subject. Some I read them all because it's interesting. Then it's TLdidR.

Sometimes. But then I'll want to quote a comment made a day ago, that was made a third of the way down an already pretty full thread and it then looks like I've either been lazy in keeping up with important forum posts or have been pondering a suitable witty or relevant reply for a full day so evidently have no social life.....

And of course there's many a thread derail that is made intentionally by folk.

Tis what it is.

I’m guilty. Of both.

I’ve replied to titles of threads. I blame the op for the click bait. .

I’ve also misread the opening post because of skim reading.

I very often ignore the opening post and just reply to the very last person as that’s who’s most likely active after someone found and replied to a thread that’s over a year old….

I always try and respond to the original topic raised by the OP, but will admit to being easily confused when there had been quote and reply leading to really long responses!

Some of the topics are quite interesting and then can turn into a flirt fest between two or more people just exchanging messages completely unrelated to the OP topic. Get a room

If I’ve got nothing to add to the OP I’ll find a comment that I like and respond to that. Next thing you know we’re talking about how many kinder buenos we can fit in each other’s bumholes.

Because they can! **

** Fab cliché no 2. Written by anyone who has nothing worthwhile to say but wants to post in the Fora.

I usually read the OP and some subsequent comments but when you get ping pong between two folk trying to out do each other replying and quoting huge texts I glaze over and tend to skip to the end.

Happens quite often when threads are taken over by *drum roll* The Clique! No?

There was quite an interesting one a few days ago until it got taken over/derailed and I couldn’t be arsed anymore.

Tangents are good though are they not? I think the forum like a conversation evolves aa people discuss a subject. As long as it's related to the OP I think it's ok.

But my answer is probably biased, as I often go off in tangents, as the above is. I tend to read the title and OP abd post what comes to my head.

I always read the post and reply to the OP, sometimes it's humour based but at least it's on topic. Good threads sometimes get derailed by certain people and it makes people lose interest. If two people are having a conversation or just flirting with everything with a pulse, just take it to private messaging it's simple really.

I try to.. Although the irony is i just skipped to the end of this thread

I give up if it becomes an argument of 'but you said this' and 'you meant this' and its then a constant battering of the same non-point... Once those posters post, I'm usually out

I'll almost always read the full OP, occasionally to my pain. I may not read all subsequent posts, if many are long and there's tons of reply and quotes.

I try to read all of it but sometimes come across a post I feel strongly enough about that I want to comment right away.

Then I go on to read the rest of the post and sometimes find I'm the gazzillionth person to make that very same point and thereby making my contribution a bit duplicitous.

I read all of this one first though! (phew!)

Depends on the thread! Skim the 'do you like ketchup?' threads, but do tend to give more serious threads a proper read.

I obviously like to see people's perspectives, but also normally to see if someone else has made the broad point I would have so I don't need to post! And on the really serious threads I like to see who to exclude from my comfortable echo chamber!
