Studland on fire

Dorchester

Well it seems that there has been a heath fire on or around Studland beach with the ferry road closed. Everyone ok? Any news as to whether it is open tomorrow?

There is a Fab couple, who earlier updated their status that they'd seen 6, maybe more, fire engines going across on the ferry

From what I understand it was ~30 vehicles and ~90 firefighters this afternoon, and several will be there most of the night - there was still a fair bit of smoke as the sun set.

I'd suggest reading through twitter/local news in the morning to check the situation.

Due to a recent fire at Studland, we are advising that people avoid the area while Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service work to contain and extinguish it.

This morning: Fire crews have been largely scaled back, but the heath is still alight. The Ferry Road is still closed and the ferry still suspended - so no chance of anyone reaching the nudist beach today!

Thankfully everyone in the village okay (I have family there)

Ferry has just started running again and parking is allowed in the car parks only, which are filling very quickly.

Might be worth parking sandbanks/poole side and crossing ferry on foot.

Just reading on BBC this morning that firefighters found a disposable BBQ in the ashes and are pretty sure that was the cause.

How frikkin dumb are some people ? So angry about it grrrr

I called it yesterday.

Some fucking idiot.

I can imagine the thought process.

" I can have a fucking BBQ if I want, nobody is gonna tell me what to do trying to stop my freedoms"

Even if it costs hundreds of thousands in wages for emergency services and puts lives and valuable wildlife in danger as long as they can have their burgers that's all that matters eh.

I really hope that none of the lovely people of Fab were involved ... but Dorset police report that more than 300 cars have not only ignored the 'No Parking' on Ferry Road today, but they moved sections of the hoses (that the firefighters are still using), just so they could park!! What utter selfish f**kwits !!

Sainburys (and tesco) yes.. totally withdrawn until conditions improve

saddly it wont be four idiots found and reported with a full on half barrel bbq lit on the sand at dovestones resevoir last week the moor is onlyjust starting to recover from the last time some eejit set itvon fire 3 years ago that time it burned for 3 weeks !
