There's lots of beautiful people on fab.

Does anyone do any legit modelling?

Or are there any others here who are keen photographers? I'm talking proper cameras shooting RAW files processed in lightroom or similar, not smart phones and insta filters)

Would be cool to connect!

Maybe drop photos in the thread? (If you can do that... this is my first forum post )

I am semi pro.. Semi only as Photography could not pay what the day job does, so it's a top up and retirement plan.

PurplePort is a great place to connect and there are lots, of FB groups linking Models (both for pay and TFP) with TOG's.

And there are recognised limits. A connection from here might want to be starting at boudoir.. Other sites, might just, start at, fashion.

Personally done all. Even had people on here talking to me about shooting for thier profiles.

That is becoming a huge thing. All types of "dating" profile pics that people want. I get about 30 requests a week. Not bad for a side gig... But not profitable at that rate.

I used to use purpleport years ago as a hobbyist to improve my skills and give prospective models some (hopefully) better pics for their portfolios.

My problem is being a perfectionist and getting the balance right between quality and quantity!

I prefer natural light so would work outside. I would deliberately underexpose a couple of stops then use RAW to compensate after to keep detail. Tripod, fill in flash. Made my own custom portable reflectors.

Might start again one day but am enjoying art more at the moment so I can take my time!

Funny you should say about under exposing. I've been exposing to the right (of the histogram) on some shoots lately. Not clipping the highlights, but lifting the shadows. It was suggested I try it on a course I did. It helps to reduce noise for a cleaner image

We've all got our own techniques and personal styles

Depends what you class as inappropriate and everyone's idea will be different but legally, the images are not owed by the "model" . What if you made friends with someone then fell out with them? You could do pretty much what you like with those pics and the other person doesn't have a leg to stand on.

The way past that is to agree a license transfer for one penny. But the whole idea of TFP is for mutual benefit and I have yet to see that abused.

That's why a "real" photographer as opposed to a friend with a camera will have a specific legal agreement. My model contract has specific clauses such as "not represent the subject in a derogatory manner"

Then you can use the courts.

As for what you describe, that falls under revenge porn and you can end up in prison.

So not advisable.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I took pics for a lovely couple and I was very clear. I used their memory card in my camera and handed it over directly after the shoot.

What did I get out of it? I think my photography got better with more practice and of course I got to watch a gorgeous younger couple fuck like bunnies.

I liked watching, they loved being watched plus got a shed load of good photos for their own use.

Win/Win.

I've done odds and sods modelling for private collectors and shot plenty of models myself (and some profile images for members here) but feel like a huge imposter when calling myself a real photographer. I'm technically adept and can shoot great images, but feel awkward telling people how to pose or get them to relax. Pro models are easy to shoot, as are friends and play partners as the mood does most of the work. But getting great images from a total stranger? That's an art form all in itself!

We went to an event at the weekend where a club opened its doors for people to turn up and have pics taken.

Photographers/models were there.

We turn up with our phone and our imagination and we were able to get some fantastic pics - some on our profile and some to come. Some on another female friends profile.

Some phones are just as good or if not better than some cameras now…whilst we had a light box, we didn’t have any other equipment.

I’m not denying professional photographers are worth their money but I will dispute that you need all the equipment to take good pics.

I shoot raw and JPEG on a GX7 , I have a really fast 22mm portrait lens for doing people and unless I’m printing lathe images for a gallery or doing inside abandoned buildings I dont need to use the RAW files.

For me though, half of the work is setting up the shot, the other half is post processing. You can really define a style with colour grading and toning. If you give the SD card away, you've done half the job

Agreed , I always reccy wkth an iPhone , it has a huge dynamic range better than most camera, and totally accessible for street / portrait and glamour , only take my camera for planned shoots using tripod , if I want low lite / long exposure of the sea or prints of models above above A4 , or bad lights so I can control ISO AND EV

There is indeed. You have to both understand what they like and don't like about themself, and then potentially push past that to get the great pics they never knew existed.

The biggest trick to that people believe the adage "the camera never lies".... Its been lying for decades, most people just don't realise how. Between angles and different lenses, what you see is not necessarily what was there.

Sorry, its simple logic they aren't. The sensor in a mobile phone is by definition tiny, compared to a Dslr camera. So you cannot get as many real size pixels on it. Then you have a tiny optical lens.

You may think the picture is better but I think that just shows a threshold of acceptance. And as we know in fab land Size usually does make a difference.

100%

I've heard someone describe the sensor size of a full frame camera to be the size of a postage stamp, whereas a mobile sensor is the size of your baby finger nail.

I also know a sure way to improve image quality is upgrading the glass. A tiny perspex that gets scuffed in your pocket can't be on par with a leica !

Sensor size isn’t everything, in fact it’s hardly anything. Some of my best street photography is shot on phones or a 1” sensor on a Sony or a Micro 4/3, I dont even own a full frame anymore. Creative composition and light will always outperform tech.

For models , non pro models are much harder work to get good shots but much more fun to shoot. I shot someone recently in brasil with over 1 million insta followers and it was quite boring compared to some of people here I’ve done photo shoots with. The best shoots are when you spend a day walking around a city and she says but you didn’t take any photos , the experience comes first , the shots are then easy and discreet

I think Plus Size is just growing exponentially. Curve is in, woke is driving new values and inherently that is a plus for the +++

But insecurity still exists, and even my larger models like small retouched here and there. But I always start with a flattering pose in person rather than try to retouch everything.

I always find it incredible how ‘pro togs’ on FAB never have good pics of themselves to show off their work. To me, if I were a pro, I’d be using my profile to show off what I could do and those pics would sell me, without saying a word.

Well known that most photographers are rubbish models, but I tend to agree. You are your brand, and even if they're photographs taken by others or selfies they should be of a certain quality, especially if 50% of the job is done after the shutter has clicked...

Interesting with the car analogy... I used to be an aircraft mechanic, highest levels of professionalism and engineering standards. We all drove bangers though!

Some phones are just as good or if not better than some cameras now…whilst we had a light box, we didn’t have any other equipment.

I’m not denying professional photographers are worth their money but I will dispute that you need all the equipment to take good pics.

Modern phones are pretty decent. And can outperform cameras in low light situations. I'm sure your pics were amazing.

But I still don't think you can beat a good camera and lighting set up.

A Ford focus will get you to the shops, but a Bentley will do a better job of it

I always find it incredible how ‘pro togs’ on FAB never have good pics of themselves to show off their work. To me, if I were a pro, I’d be using my profile to show off what I could do and those pics would sell me, without saying a word.

Well, we are happy in our Ford Focus…

found when we put our better pics up they just got nicked and spread all over porn sites so dont bother just put fun pics up now usualy taken on hour phones whilst having fun .

"There's lots of beautiful people on fab.

Does anyone do any legit modelling?

Or are there any others here who are keen photographers? I'm talking proper cameras shooting RAW files processed in lightroom or similar, not smart phones and insta filters)

Would be cool to connect!

Maybe drop photos in the thread? (If you can do that... this is my first forum post )"

I did a small bit of fashion modeling in the past but now I just model for my own shots, my profile pics are all done by me. My profession is photography adjacent so photography is a hobby for me. I shoot on my 5D and process in Photoshop but not much because I'm lazy. If it's lit well then there's not much need for too much post work.

You can tell the quality in a lot of your pics…some lovely pics and I’d say you could tell you are a photographer from your pics. So I’d say you sell yourself well.

I was careful not to write "pro" in the post because I'm not. I'm a "keen" photographer.

I didn't really intend for the thread to be about phones vs cameras but there we go lol!

And I love analogies. I feel it helps me to explain what I mean. Whether it does or not... I'm not so sure lol! But I didn't mean to offend any ford focus owners. My last car was a focus and I kept it longer than any other of my many cars over the years

Thanks for replying though. I appreciate everyone's comments here. Just wanted you to know I'm not here to offend people

I hear what you say and I have seen the results, however in order to maximise my time and to try get the balance of quality v quantity I just found the under-exposure method quicker even if the results favour your method.

But I am always keen to try any method that reduces unintentional noise.

As for IPhones v DSLR, it isn’t like for like. An iPhone uses AI to optimise the picture. This is the same as using a DSLR on auto. A DSLR is for craft, an IPhone is for convenience.

"I used to use purpleport years ago as a hobbyist to improve my skills and give prospective models some (hopefully) better pics for their portfolios.

Wow! You're in demand!

I'm on purpleport but I'd like to meet and help people on here. I think though some people may mistake it as pervy. When I see it as art

Funny you should say about under exposing. I've been exposing to the right (of the histogram) on some shoots lately. Not clipping the highlights, but lifting the shadows. It was suggested I try it on a course I did. It helps to reduce noise for a cleaner image

We've all got our own techniques and personal styles"

To be fair I use my method more for landscapes. Landscapes don't tend to move (generally) like people can, so exposing to the right and therefore lengthening the shutter speed doesn't matter so much. You gotta do what's right for you at the time
