Pinch of salt

So I take everyone's profiles as they are. If they don't state they're looking for women, or I'm out if their age range etc, I won't message if I was interested.

The question is, should profiles be taken as is or with a pinch of salt. Is it better to shoot your shot or just accept the way it is?

All profiles should be taken as they are, a lot more people would avoid dissapointment that way. If I'm not what someone's looking for I wouldn't waste their time or mine.

Just have a wank, shoot your shot over their pictures and move on.

I never message if I am out of the age range. I've dine it in the past and either just been deleted or told off

I think so yes, it would make it better if people actually took profiles seriously.

Although sometimes being on the younger side we could be out on someone's minimum age by 1 or 2 years but would be happy to meet us, so occasionally we have fabbed a picture of theirs we liked to see if we get their attention

I take everyone's with a pinch of salt. We can and do say anything on our profiles depending on what we are looking for at the time.

Men are usually criticised for not taking profiles seriously or ignoring them completely and yet I've been told by a few couples that they know I don't really believe anything written in mine and it's just for show because men don't have options on here.

Well yeah, if someone goes to the effort of filling out a profile it's because they know what they're looking for and if you don't fit that it seems rude to message anyway.

100% if people were more honest about their wants:needs/desires and motives there is likely to be something for everyone here? Why have an incorrect profile or age etc when it’s immediately apparent if u meet that u lied? It just wastes everyone’s time?

It depends what bits.

What they are after, I listen to and if I don't match, I don't message.

But anything else, their height, their age, any brags, or whatever, I take with a massive pinch of salt as that's all just 'advertising' in the end and many will embellish the truth.

What do you want people to do with your profile, OP?

Do you want them to assume you've taken the time to write it and you're serious about what you've written in it (I haven't read yours btw), it says what you want and who you're looking for, and if they don't match what you're after then a message would be wasting their time and yours?

Or would you rather people just read it, think "she ain't gotta clue what she is after really. I know better" and message you even though they're absolutely not who you're looking for?

Because if the second is the case, there is no point in putting text on a profile, we may as well just have pictures.

Unless the person states that they don't know what or who they're after, and want to chat to anyone,

or their text is clearly meant as a joke , I think it comes across pretty arrogant to assume that one should take it with a pinch of salt.

Saying that, I also see no harm in pointing out that you don't fit their profile, but that you wanted to message anyway to compliment them on their photos/profile text/forum posts/torso/towel/grouting/carpet.

My profile has been is and always will be just random words im thinking at the time i type it out all i see profiles as is self made propaganda does it rep me yeah partly but also no

A lot of the times im only typing something cos i think its funny to entertain myself or if in a dark place i use it to vent my thoughts its not something i take serious at all thats why i never read them

Isn't this where everyone piles on telling you that if you bothered to read a profile you wouldn't waste yours and their time and how fed up we all are of people ignoring our preferences?

If people have set filters you won't be able to message, if it's preferences stated on their profile feel free to ignore them but don't be surprised if you don't get the response you want. Also it's worth considering what your reaction would be to someone ignoring a clearly stated preference of yours.

Tbh, as a young woman I'm surprised you're finding many profiles that explicitly exclude you.

There’s a few things I put on my profile, and hundreds I didn’t.

If we listed everything we’d be here all day typing our life’s work.

I read more into how they interact with me than the few likes/dislikes they wrote in a blurb.

We always point out that we are aware we don't fit their ideal, but just saying hi or complimenting their pics etc.

Much prefer face to face at clubs though as anyone could be behind that screen (Cilla Black style!!)

I always abide by peoples preferences. The most common is "No baldies" or sometimes "No beards".

When I see that I move on.

Age is the easy one as I am outside most ranges, but filters work well here.

It doesn't mean I won't message someone regarding other things and I make it clear that I am not in their preference range and am only messaging to...

Anyway, people get enough digital noise on here without any from those who they don't want to be approached by.

I use my profile as a way to show my personality off and hope that I can find like minded people.

I do like your suggestion though and I may use that to now to not pester but test the waters.
