A 'Y' reg Ford Sierra.

It had wing mirrors on it that flipped inwards - so anything over 50mph and all you could see was your own knees.

It used to ice up on the inside and my niece was sick in the back after glugging a glass of vimto.

So, depending on the season and the wind direction it smelled of either anti-freeze, sick or vimto - sometimes all three !

Same car but it was red, had a different number plate and the doors had to wired shut cos they wouldn't engage the locking mechanism and people had to get in and out of it a la Starsky & Hutch.

Once when it started raining I put the wipers on and one of them flew off and landed on the pavement. I stopped the car and asked my mate to climb out and get it and when he tried the door fell off.

V reg, MK11 Ford Escort 1.3 Ghia in a lovely metalic gold with brown velour upholstry and (fake) wooden plank across the dashboard. What a piece of crap, there was more filler than metal and it died in spectacular fashion one evening on the way home from work.

Was good fun for going sideways around roundabouts though :o)

My first car was given to me by my company at the time... a Honda Integra, 1.6 Auto, a rare car in this country.

Pop-up headlamps, Electric windows and sun-roof, it had everything!

Six months into having the car, I attended a trade exhibition in London and unfortunately, got stopped by a policeman for an illegal turn at a junction. As he sat in the car (it was pouring buckets outside!) he commented on how I'd only passed my test 8 months before and how good the car was.

Ended up, he did a test drive around the block, was much impressed with it and let me off with a warning!

Red 01 ford focus 1.8 tdi, I won't give the reg as I'm driving it. It's my baby and has been a great car, never let down apart from the clutch giving out in the A1 driving down to Norfolk, the ring holding the turbo in place snapping on the M1 and a loose wire causing the engine to die crawling up the woodhead last jan!! But I still live it and hope I can get a few more years out of it before I'm forced to get rid.

You had to keep your foot on the throttle to stop it from dying so when you wanted to stop you had to use the handbrake lol

Our family business is a garage so as a learner I had whatever car was hanging around the showroom so think I had everything from 3l Cortina down to a 950 Fiesta when I was learning to drive, I know I had an old brown Datsun Sunny at the time of my 18th as my foot slipped off the clutch and I reversed into my Dad's brand new XR4i in it The earliest one I remember particularly was a white converted Fiesta van, reg GBV 71W with a dodgy starter motor - I carried a hammer in the car and when it died, a tap on the starter with the hammer always did the trick - nowadays I'd probably be arrested for carrying an offensive weapon in my car and I've no idea where to find the starter motor anyway!

Y reg bright yellow metro ex hubby bought to teach me to drive think he paid 200 for it. We were havin a lesson 1 day he started shoutin at me I tried to park it but ended up on a little wall I got out and walked off hubby was gettin funny looks. He broke the reverse gear it took 5 guys to lift it off the wall. I made hubby pay for the repairs then I sold it for 400 quid lol

Always had motorbikes, but in the winter cos we had fulll licences we could drive Reliant 3wheelers. They were V popular up here and mine was a supervan, 2 seats and a flat back floor. We also raced sidecars and so when we used to feel the Van tip on right or left handers it was out of the passenger seat and either out the passenger window or drivers side one to stop the b**t**d tipping over!! Never get away with that one these days.

Had a massive V8 sticker on the rear door but it was fantastic in snow too.

Mk1 Ford Cortina - 734PDT - two tone green!! Got it in around 1975.Great car to learn mechanics on - renewed gearbox, clutch, brakes, pistons, cylinder rings, exhaust,and lots of other stuff. Nice big rust holes in floor eventually got the MOT guy to condemn it!! Sold it for £10 a wheel to s scrappy.

I lived in a very rural area and had a variety of cars to learn to drive in in the fields which included a 1966 Fiat 600 , a Hillman Hunter , a 1973 Mk 1 Ford Escort I bought off some raving mad Jehovah's Witness's and a Renault 12 , legally the first I owned on the road was a 1973 Ford Transit and a 1975 Mini Van . The transit I took to college and if anyone wanted a lift it was under the understanding that they would have to help push start it as I could not afford a new starter motor .

A beige Hillman Imp which had a breeze block under the bonnet to weight it down and the engine in the back....A few years after I sold it it was bought by a garage owner who worked next door to my work. He completely pimped it up, respray, new engine, wheels the works...looked great after it was finished....was a pile of crap that kept leaping out of gear whilst I had it.....lol

Fantastic car that went like a bomb! Shortly after getting that I bought a 14ft Fletcher speedboat as well.

It was hand painted in a colour I didn't recognise and broke down twice a week at best.

Yes!!! Reliants are superb fun!! I had a Supervan too, none of my mates would have a lift because they were scared of the thing! Look how much Supervans fetch now though... There is something about Reliants though, I couldn't resist a mint Robin last year!

There use to be a Relient Kitten round Southend with a Rover v8 in and the wheelie bars on the back... and a yellow Robin stickered up as Thunderbird 4...

i had a lovely MK2 Escort. Uprated suspension and brakes. Uprated 2.0 engine with twin Weber carbs. Had it for about 8 weeks before some half wit plowed in to and wrote it off!

A 1965 Humber Hawk bought from the car auctions when I was 16 paid £30 for it with half a tank of petrol. I sold it for £50 2 days later when it ran out of fuel and I couldnt find the fuel filler(turns out you unscrew one of the rear light reflectors)wish I had it now it would be worth a fortune.

1998 Nissan Micra 1.0, it was my brothers but my parents gave it to me as they paid for his univeristy costs in th US and thought i deserved something from it. I could barely fit in it properly, my head scraped the roof, took a battering if i went over cobbles. Very reliable though, never needed any work doneto it in the 5 years we had it in the family.

It went even better when the Riley engine died and I replaced it with an MGB engine! Sham it was only a month later that somebody pulled across my path in a VW camper in the wet and I couldn`t stop
