Just wanted to say thank you….

Well… let’s just say my Saturday night has been eventful!

This afternoon my tongue started to tingle and when I tried to drink some fluids I couldn’t take it down properly.. thought “this is odd!” Keep an eye on it!

Do then like an old man I fall asleep on my sofa..

Wake up at 7… feels worse… went to a mirror.. left side of face not working to the point it had drooped a little and no slurring speech a bit.. think “oh shit!” Dial 111… who then tell me to go to A&E straight away

At this time I am thinking “have I had some sort of stroke?” (Blame those ads! Lol bloody effective though!)

Get seen sharpish! Do a barrage of tests…

Good news… not a stroke…. Bad News… Bell’s palsy!

Relieved… ruined my Saturday night, still thought about going out but then a combination of sensibilities and common sense kicked in! (Basically I tried taking the tablets they gave me… saw the results of me trying to take fluids with them, and thought that is not a sexy look!)

I just wanted to say thank you to the amount of people who have seen my statuses changed in the last few hours and have sent me messages making sure I am okay!!!!

You are all godsends!!! And to the others, I will accept jokes as long as they are smart!

"How are you feeling, Fabio?"

It a very odd sensation.. imagine when you are at the dentist and they numb some of your gums… imagine that times 50… it’s odd looking in a mirror and you move half and the other half does nothing… I can involuntarily blink but that all the movement the left side of my face can do…

So.. eyepatch shopping at boots tomorrow! And the wonderful solution for sleeping tonight is to tape my eye shut!

I hope it's some comfort to hear that I've known a couple of people who have had Bell's Palsy and recovered. It's took a couple of months though.

I hope you recover well and quickly

Hello, I am currently suffering with Bells palsy, mine started in March and I'm still not completely back to normal. I was on steroids and antivirals for 10 days initially and then just stuck with vit b12,magnesium and turmeric. I did also have to take some pain relief after the steroids had finished as was in pain from the affected nerve behind my ear. I think the worst thing though was how painful a dry non closing eye can be. I was given artifical tears and the best thing I found that they prescribed was artifical vitamin a cream, couldn't see anything when I used it but it helped a lot. My eye will now close on its own but went through a stage of producing so many tears I still couldn't see as couldn't blink . I also tried acupuncture when I was visiting the UK and if I'd been there longer a course of sessions would have been better. I've read that acupuncture can be very useful although I think it deonds on what caused it initially and how severe the damage is . I found some good stuff on acupressure points and have used them but research shows that actually doing facial massage and exercises can actually make things worse. Anyway happy to compare notes if you need to and wishing you a speedy recovery. X

"You got recognised something was wrong and did the right thing. Not something us men normally do!.

Oh i learnt the lesson of recognising something wasn’t right and doing something about it straight away after ending up in an ICU with pneumonia because I thought I just had a cough for months and only doing something when I literally collapsed!

As my doctor said… “trying to be superman is well above your pay grade!” blunt person they are!

So trying to sleep with your eye taped shut is quite surreal the one time you try to keep your eyes shut and brain is saying keep testing it!!!

So off to get some artificial tears… and asking with a straight face ish (well I’ll just point) where the eyepatches are!!

Thanks you again for all the messages.. when I get back I will start on the admin!!
