Give up or fight - medical

Before I ask this I know it's very personal and depends on individual circumstances, like age, single or married, the condition

If you are diagnosed with a medical condition, how do you react?

Do you research all you can and take all advice you can and make the necessary adjustments in your life to accommodate the condition?

Or do you continue to live life like you want and have fun?

Due to having loved ones I tend to make adjustments and try to extend my life. But that's just me op

Dad just over 18 months ago was diagnosed with COPD... on top of everything else, he chose to not tell us and have no treatment.

He passed very quietly... both Mum and I were with him... and it was HIS choice... he didnt leave it to Mum or either of his daughters.

He decided he'd had enough and simply let his time run out.

My Mum and Sis are still struggling.. I'm happy he got to choose...

I have a long term health condition (heart) and did my research. Don't let it hold me back at all, I go to the gym 3 times a week, zumba and boxercise. Lost over a stone in weight and feeling well at the moment, a recent echocardiogram showed my heart was beating strongly and regular. Had a medical and blood tests, yesterday so waiting the results from that.

Cant you do both ? I’ve beaten a couple of bad things but also seen friends die. You can live what you think is the healthiest life and still die badly if you have stress - a bigger killer than smoking , so make the tough choices but live each day like it’s your last as well

Waiting more info but there is a chance I may have a heart condition, either unknown genetic one or man made

If so it may mean changes but at times my head says not worth it and just enjoy

Have to wait to see what they say and if it is serious

I hope you're ok op

By all means do some research ,but don't drive yourself mad looking at all the worst cases .

I hope you can find some answers and hopefully still lead a full and enjoyable life

See what they say, I wish you luck and I know it sounds scary when you say that you have heart issues but it is amazing what they can do and I am monitored closely for mine and never see my cardiologist unless I feel I need too. I'm on daily medication, but that's ok

Exercise has been of a huge benefit, don't let it hold you back

Changes don't have to be bad necessarily OP.

I had a recent health scare, they thought it was something a lot more serious and for some time I was worried. Overthinking it. Affected my mood. But then I hit the fuck it point. Luckily it's not more serious but I'm still under consultant care. Made some changes like no caffeine, going to the gym and making better food choices, losing weight but I feel better for it. And in a weird way it's made me more determined to say yes to things. Adventures. People. Before I was the queen of no or procrastination but now I'm trying to live. More than before.

I hope you work out what's best for you x

Ok so 4 years ago I was diagnosed with an incurable but treatable Cancer, it will kill me. The prognosis is 7 years. I have had a Stem Cell transplant and back to normal living. So I had the worst news ever and I must admit I have had my dark moments about death but for now I choose life and enjoy it to the max. I feel and look normal and don’t have any treatment at the mo so I think I’m good for more than 7 years, well that’s what I tell myself. I live the rest of my life with no regrets and enjoy everything I do.

If my mh was not as fxx as it is I would like to think that would be my approach, depending how serious or not this turns out to be

Depends on the condition, what the changes would be and what effect they would have. If I was in a position where say losing 5 stone would dramatically improve my life then absolutely. If it was a case of taking drugs that made me feel sick all day every day and I would constantly catch colds that turned into pneumonia and bouncing in and out of hospital to gain an extra 6 months then absolutely not.

Found a lump in my neck in April this year just below my ear. GP couldn't see anything but referred me to ENT Consultant. They found a tumour with an ultrasound scan and biopsy taken which is thankfully benign. Had A MRI the same week and I have the same on the other side awaiting biopsy for that now.

It's rare for these to be cancerous so fingers crossed. Going to be checked every 3 months now.

Was worrying at the time but I've got my head round it now and just trying to carry on as normal.
