It appears that my recovery from a serious eye condition has unfortunately stalled. A friend has suggested to me Ayurvedic exercises specfically for the eye. I'm open to alternative therapies so i'll be asking the consultant about them on Monday when i'm next in hospital.

How do you feel about alternative therapies?

I'm deeply suspicious of them. In my experience everyone who tries alternative cures doesn't get better.

Ayurvedic medicine has been around a very long time though so maybe there's something in it.

If what's been suggested is harmless it's worth giving it a try though.

That's what i thought. I'd never suggest them as a complete alternative to alopathic medicine but i think they have their place alongside it in a more holistic approach. We'll have to see.

If you try it let us know how you get on.

When I was in India years ago before most people in the west knew of Ayurvedic medicine it was suggested to me. A lot of people I knew at the time swore by it.

There is a reason I suppose are all named complementary therapies as are meant to add/complement something ie conventional medicines and practices. I am speaking generally rather than for this specific condition of course

I certainly will. I think the consultant is Indian so i'm hoping he's going to be open to the idea. To be honest i'll try anything at the moment.

I understand that very well. It's as a result of trying anything for a spinal problem some time back that I put my trust mostly in conventional medicine. The NHS gives acupuncture though and I have known that to work for some.

Don't get me started on CBD oil though

Count Your Blessings Cottage, Gratitude Grove

Seems to be a combination of several therapies.

It’s been around for a long time so there’s probably merit in it, but there’s no formal certification so you’re relying on getting someone who knows what their doing.

I’m certificated in various mind and trauma therapies. I’d personally recommend Reiki

Ultimately with most therapies and conventional treatments- if you believe they will work then they probably will, if you don’t then it’s pretty much guaranteed that they won’t!

Whether you believe in it or not i still think it's an interesting subject and not one that should be so casually dismissed. There's alot more going on in the human mind and body than we're aware of. For example, i know lots of people who regularly take CBD oil and they all swear by it. Like you say, belief in the efficacy of the stuff you're taking can be more beneficial than the stuff itself.

I personally dont use doctors or take their drugs. Whenever ive had a cold etc ive used my own remedies and recover fully!

Up to this point i've been exactly the same. You have to draw a line somewhere though.

I'm open to them, but with your eyes I'd be listening to all the options the consultant gives you that they have to offer. The advancements they have now compared to even a few years ago are vast.

That's interesting.

Is there anything you would consult a doctor for. I wouldn't dream of seeing one for a cold for instance

Sage advice. What i initially brushed off as the onset of an infection turned out to be something completely different and a whole lot worse. It should have left me completely blind in that eye but i guess i've been lucky. Now i've got around 80% of my vision back i'm looking at complementary therapies to work alongside the alopathic treatments i'm currently receiving in the hope they'll help add a few extra percentage points.
