I know a few gay NHS staff 2 doctors and 3 nurses I know personally as friends in Bristol. And they say always play safe where a condom etc. just found a profile that belongs to one of them. On his profile, he says prefers to fuck bareback that is his strong preference. Am I correct? Is he a hypocrite?

No. He just avoids telling people what he gets up to in his private life.

Pretty much how if anyone mentioned sharing wives at work I’d pretend I would never do it.

A friend might raise it privately with the person?

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I tell my friends to take painkillers when they have pain. I refuse to take painkillers unless I desperately need them because I can't move for pain.

Does that make me a hypocrite or just someone who refuses to take my own sensible advice?

In short, I don't think your friend is a hypocrite, I think he is passing on the sensible advice and making his own decision for himself.

Why is the profession relevant?

I guess because they are healthcare workers offering healthcare advice that they don't follow. I imagine it would be different (and less relevant) if say it was a builder telling me how to back up my computer when he doesn't have one...

They are giving you the advice they would give to anyone, and then allowing you to make an informed decision regarding your sexual health.

In the same way he has made a decision regarding his sexual health.

There are things I do that I would advise others not to because of the inherent risks, but I wouldn’t look down on them if they chose to fo them.

Somewhere in Co. Down

He is allowed to look for whatever he wants just the same as you are. It doesn't make him a hypocrite if he is upfront about what he wants either.

Professionally he most likely in that capacity tells people it's safer to use protection just because his preference is for bare back does not make him a hypocrite.

And if he is just someone who you know but don't know intimately then it's actually none of your business what he does in his private life, that like anyone on here is between him and whoever he meets.

I tell people not to open suspicious emails at work.

I open suspicious emails as part of my job to investigate, does that make me a hypocrite or is it a choice as to whether i do it or not?

He made a choice in his personal life, the advice he gave is up to those who received it whether to follow it or not.

No. "this is the best medical advice for keeping yourself healthy" is not the same as "I do this and you must do this"

Plenty of health professionals smoke and sunbathe, even though we know that they're cancer central. Their choice.

A hypocrite is somebody who tells other people to behave differently from how they do themselves. That doesn't appear to be what he's doing here.

La la land

Many healthcare professionals will give the best medical advice. Even if they don't follow it themselves. It doesn't make them a hypocrite, they probably don't want anyone to take naively take risks just because they do.
