On coronation street earlier one of the little boys said a sentence that was designed to help him spell the word 'because' (for anyone who missed it, it's 'big elephants can't always use small exits'). It made me think of one that I used as a kid to remember the names and order of the planets in the solar system. So tonight's question to you all is, have any of you got any that you used as a kid or still use now?

If you hold your left hand up the first finger and thumb form an L for left hand.

What's the fat Richard one about?

I always use Never Eat Shredded Wheat but we were also taught Naughty Elephants Squirt Water

Mickey Mouse Can't Play Monopoly Very Well was used in food tech to remember Minerals, something I've forgotten, Carbohydrates, Protein, another M I can't remember, Vitamins and Water. God knows why but the phrase is still stuck in my head!

Not so much a way to remember things but whenever I spell capacity, I always say 'Capa City' in my head because when it was on my spellings list, everyone was wearing Kappa and I thought it was something to do with that until my mum explained!

For the line notes on the stave in music it was "Every Green Bus Drives Fast" and "FACE" for the spaces.

Also when teaching the kids about jars lids and bottle tops "Lefty Loosey, Right Tighty"

Used to use my fingers for the 9 times table...

If you want to know 3 x 9 hold your hands out palms facing you and put your 3rd finger from the left down. count the number of fingers to the left (those are the tens) and count the numbers left up to the right (the units)

Should give you 27
