"Didnt they show up the men team?" Yeah as woman's football is now bigger and better than the mens I look forward to the new stadiums they are going to build themselves and not just piggy back off the mens success and revenue. Cant wait to see the woman's Wembley and the domestic teams can set themselves up now, no more begging clubs for kits and balls and training facilities. Because selling the rights around the world like the premier league does gets billions but with the trillions the woman will make it will be amazing.

" It’s a better standard than league 2 and countless thousands dedicate a chunk of their lives to following that and lower league football. " Are you mad.....it's no where near the standard of league 2. It's a good watch it's own right and great for girls to aspire to but it's way off league football standard. Who knows, if it's run properly, how good the standard could get. It's a way to go though.

Who knows, if it's run properly, how good the standard could get. It's a way to go though." It's a damn sight better than the shite Tranmere produced against Stevenage at the weekend. Tranmere are my team but there's nowhere near the tactical understanding, the flowing passing or patient work up to goals. It IS better than league 2. Most of league 2 is what you might call "kick and chase", it's just long balls hoofed upfront, vaguely in the direction of a fellow player with very little in the way of carefully constructed passing. Qualifications: a watcher of league 2 football

"I don't get why they are saying "it's come home" I thought that was for the World Cup! " Yep it was originally a quote used for the World Cup but seems that it has been applied for Euros too now As far as the Women's Euros tournament is concerned this definitely has been the highest standard of women's football seen and was a huge success I am not a great fan of Women's football but thoroughly enjoyed the matches I watched and felt that last night's game was extremely good. Great football played by both teams. Will always prefer to watch men's football but this does seem to be a huge step forward for the Women's game. Any English success should be regarded and revered in my opinion Congratulations to the England Women's team

Why can't them women?" It's not a generic term. It's something that specifically derives from how shit the mens team have been and the hope one day we may win. Listen to the lyrics of both versions. It's very specific on the meaning, history and what it's about. Far from generic and in term of the songs meaning absolutely nothing has 'come home'. Great tournament and very proud of them but the song has a specific meaning.

Yeah....by generic I meant not used for one specific tournament as the person I quoted thought it was....it's used for most national football tournaments wether or not it is actually coming home. So....it is a generic term used when England compete at football. The song may have specific links but the phrase 'its coming home' now transcends the song. So much so that at recent tournaments the youngsters didn't even realise it was from a song

Football is more than strength, let's prove it and let teams play their own men's verses women teams and see the outcome? A weekend of women vs men Derby's.

Djokovic hasn't won something the female Serbian players have been banging on about for almost 60 years since the last time they won anything. He's a dominant player already.

I don't see why one teams success is another teams failure, unless they're in the same competition of course. The England women did fantastically well and I watched and cheered along with most other people. But I don't see why their success has any relevance to the mens teams lack of success for so long.

Agree. It's a peculiar thought process, it's a different sport. Might as well say the women footballers showed up the women athletes. Of course they didn't. The women footballers did well. Hopefully the men follow suit. And above all things hope the twat fans and media don't spoil things..

Take a look at the woman's league crowd they're lucky to get double figures. Get real I'd say at best the skill levels are non league. "

"USA womans team, world champions at the time, in 2017 lost 5-2 to u15s boys youth team. No the quality is no where near the same as mens. All that being said they done well and congrats!" Wasn't it the Australian national team? I'm sure they lost to an under 17s team 5-0. There was a bit of mickey taking afterwards but the explanation was it was simply a training exercise to gain fitness for an upcoming competition. Subs were used throughout the game, continuingly breaking it up, trying a new system also didn't help.

The matildas lost 7 nil to 15 year old boys, as you said rotating players etc The USA lost 5 nil to 15 year old boys in a friendly. It was a few years ago and no doubt the quality has improved in that time. I'm not sure we need to glory in it though. They remain separate sports. There's a lot of sports 15 year boys would do well against women. So what? Best not to compare men's and womens versions really.

No one is saying they can beat the men's team as they play a very different game. They're saying they went out there and won a tournament against their peers. Something the men's team try to do. However you look at it, this victory is well deserved and very important in the development of women's sport. **Let the lionesses roar with pride. Real lions stand behind their women.** " **

Sunday matches are very rare in our league.

"Never sure why there has to be comparisons between the men's and womens football team I have not come across it in rugby union, though the English women's team have been playing extremely well. I am not English but found myself getting bit emotional watching the match and some of the aftermath. The sheer and utter joy on their faces when the hard work they put in paid off. They deserve every accolade Did you know that Women's football was banned in the UK between 1921 and 1970 and that one of the prevailing understandings as to why is because the Women's game was more popular and the FA wasn't in a position to make money from it. Dick, Kerr Ladies player Alice Barlow said, "we could only put it down to jealousy. We were more popular than the men and our bigger gates were for charity." Imagine what it could have been today if it hadn't been banned like that?" Oh come on... The women's game was more popular. What nonsense. The women did well. Celebrate. But the reason no money could be made is because it wasn't popular and didn't have the numbers either playing or watching it. Maybe that will change now. Let's hope so.

"Interesting listening to Darren bent earlier on TalkSPORT he made a bold statement in regards to the manager saying she could possibly manage in the mens game personally I think she could she’s tactically astute and should get a chance " Quite right too. If they are good enough.. Best person for the job.

"Interesting to see the male comments. If one of the over paid male players from any country back heeled it into the goal, the male commentary team would have ejaculated on the spot. My opinion.... it should be like the Olympics. Women actually won, so the majority of the FA funding should be directed to the womens game. The men are shite - so they get less." The money comes from sponsors, gate receipts and TV revenue. Unless all the people saying the women deserve more money are going to go out and buy a season ticket and watch the games on telly then it’s unfortunately a pointless argument.

Kudos for trying it the semis, which makes it a bit more special (same way Rooney's overhead shin has gone down in history more than it should). As a keeper you'd be disappointed with it.

The reality is that the womens game has a different narrative - not less than but different (before anyone brings up the fa ban). So there" Aren't all goals effectively a defensive error on behalf of the team who conceded?! How many men's teams have won the FA Cup or Champions League or been promoted or secured the Premier League title, via "soft" goals? Even better, via own goals?! Perhaps we should stop own goals counting because if your opposition scores for you, that's presumably even softer than a backheel that's "woefully defended"? I reckon stopping penalties counting as a whole goal too, because how easy is it to score when pretty much no-one is defending at all?! Maybe penalties should just be half? The facts are that all goals count. 40yd screamers, free kicks on the edge of the area, scramblers, headers, ricochets off the back of a central defenders left arse cheek, penalties, headers from corners (possibly dropped by the keeper), own goals, overhead bicycle kicks and toe pokers. They ALL count.

In fact, the basic errors on display were consistently ignored. Refreshingly positive but the men don't get a free pass - they are expected to perform at a high level. The women's team have inspired women and girls and itnwas very lovely but football hasnt come home. The 60ish years of the mens game that we grew up on with the collective experience of watching the hand of god in 86, italia 90, euro 96, france 98, seamans lob in 2002, and 20 more years of almosts and disasters - that story is epic and where our hearts as fans lie. The reality is that the womens game has a different narrative - not less than but different (before anyone brings up the fa ban). So there Need I say more about male attitudes? Defensive error bla bla bla. It still went in and was attempted. ALL goals are defensive errors. " Not always

The reality is that the womens game has a different narrative - not less than but different (before anyone brings up the fa ban). So there Aren't all goals effectively a defensive error on behalf of the team who conceded?! They ALL count." Couldn’t agree more

Even if the most spectacular long range shot goes in from the diagonally opposite corner of the bloomin' pitch, it's the goal keeper who let it in. Goalie is a defender. Any goal is due to the defense failing in some way.

"All the triggered guys saying it's not as good because they're playing a lower standard of football is laughable They're playing amongst teams of the same standard, just like the mend team does so it is a comparable victory. No one is saying they can beat the men's team as they play a very different game. They're saying they went out there and won a tournament against their peers. Something the men's team try to do. However you look at it, this victory is well deserved and very important in the development of women's sport. Let the lionesses roar with pride. Real lions stand behind their women. " I don't think the level of women's diving, is up to the level in the mens game

"A lot of the comments on this thread show a very poor understanding of football. It is a huge achievement but it doesnt relate to the mens game at all. Certainly not showing up a team who reached a semi and a final in the last couple of years and have achieved amazing things themselves" Anyone incapable of celebrating there achievement then putting I'd down because it wasn't a male team is nothing more than sexist...and congrats on having such an understanding of football!!

We were more popular than the men and our bigger gates were for charity." Imagine what it could have been today if it hadn't been banned like that? Oh come on... The women's game was more popular. What nonsense. The women did well. Celebrate. But the reason no money could be made is because it wasn't popular and didn't have the numbers either playing or watching it. Maybe that will change now. Let's hope so. It’s actually a fact. The men were at war so the women’s game was the only one being played. they weren't at war after 1945 were they? Women's football was banned between 1921 and 1970" No, which is why the FA should keep their sticky hands of. It should be an independent, fresh start for the Women's leagues. One thing, or two things missing yesterday - where were Kate and Charlotte, George, and Louis? William was there, but why not a family day out like nearly everyone else there?

"So did the women show the mens team up or have the women been shown up? I've seen the post match celebrations in Trafalgar square and it seemed a bit naff. Have they had the open top bus around London or have I missed it? Did I miss something? All I saw were a couple of glitter cannons and then them having to sing and dance ... No fireworks, no Brain May, no Coldplay... it's like yeah they won the final, but." Bus drivers are on strike, innit
