There’s a racecourse if that’s your thing. Liverpool is under an hour on the train and really cheap to get to if you want a day trip one day too.

The races are on on the 20th, so depending on what time you arrive that could be a good afternoon.

Romeo and Juliet is on in Grosvenor park if that tickles your fancy.

Also worth checking at the cathedral, they're doing open air cinema in the dean's field and that's usually a lovely night.

I saw a mention of coffee shops: the nicest coffee I've had in Chester came from the Jaunty Goat on Bridge Street. Not eaten there but the coffee was lovely.
