If you are old enough to remember. It was in some ways Fantastic. Racists had to meet in shit boozers and send of for magazines.

Flat earthers. Well I'm not sure there were any? Getting fucked meant leaving the house and socially interacting and maybe stumbling apon a kindred spirit rather than demanding a fuck by message.

You could travel somewhere without knowing the negatives and positives. Now that's an adventure.

You could voice a comment in a circle of like minded people and someone may disagree. They weren't ejected from that group by people living in echo Chambers. On the plus side I like the videos of people slipping on ice. X

We had to go to things called shops and not get everything delivered.

We had to go to a Travel agent and look through a holiday brochure, there was no TripAdvisor.

Or they'd just beat the fuck out of you.

Does make me laugh this idea that people with wildly different views used to stand about having civilized debates.

We were joking earlier about the days when we used to collect ring pulls from cans to send off for free stuff.

In the west.

It was a lot harder to book a holiday, either piles of magazines or brochures as they were called or trudging your way through Teletext. It was a b'stard if you didn't write down the info before the page moved on and there was usually 163 pages of them.

Most deff.

Remember very clearly. You had to use your social and laguage skolls to get your point across. express yourself and get your personality to be seen. Very simple yet affective life skills.

Mostly lost because of hi-tech,and smart tech.

I find very disturbing as i drive esp in london. Many are on their phones when crossing the roads totally dorked out unaware and rude with it,when you point out a safety awareness to them.

If you wanted to buy a house, you had to make contact with all the estate agents in the area, and collect all the photocopied sheets of house details, each featuring a single black and white photo of the front of a house, and the measurements of most of the rooms within.

And drive past the house to check out the street, position, factory next door that the estate agents had photographed so it wasn't visible. Now you can see it on Google earth, and walk it on street view

Reading

As a male. Meet female in disco ( I am talking around 1974) Dance , chat . Then how do you see her again? . Ask for phone number . If she / parents have one. Then who has a pen etc and something to write number on ? Yes if did manage to write down / call. Who answered phone . If her father being asked who you are etc. Yes if really lucky get to see again after a call. A lot of times yes see again and trying to explain , lost number, could not read, father or mother did not pass on message .

Now yes my age not been to a disco . For long time. But on internet . Chat use same app. Exchange phone numbers and actually see female without leaving house before face to face meeting the next time, which is so easier. Do realise female can block me or I can block her. Sometime times now internet makes things easier ?

Gaming. If you were stuck on a level, you had to find a mate who knew how to complete it. He’d either show you or give you specific tips.

If not, you still to this day reminiscing how a game defeated you and is unfinished.

Belfast

Had a school project on ports of the world in 1980. We had to research the address and contact details of the port offices and write letters to each one asking for information.

They sent leaflets and typed histories as well as flowcharts.

At that time Rotterdam was one of the largest ports in the world and I received a hand written letter from the operations manager with an enormous package of info. He explained that it wasn't possible to respond to every school or student and he asked that I pass on some of the info to my classmates.

Unfortunately it was a summer holiday project and we didn't have email or even phone numbers so there was no way of passing it on and I therefore was the only one with any detailed info on that port. The good old days

An AA roadmap, purchased from the filling station, always on special offer when buying a torch. They were always just a little too large to pockets behind the seat, so lived in the footwell.

We all had one mate who’s map was 10 years out of date and would enjoy taking the new road ‘not on the map’.

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

I grew up in an age when we had:

No TV

No Central Heating

No washing machine

No Fridge

No Freezer

No bathroom

No inside toilet

No telephone

Food was rationed

Clothes were rationed.

Wnen we did get a telephone it was a shared line and we had to dial 9 to talk to an operator and tell her what number you wanted.

Our first television was a Bush with a 9 inch screen this was bought for the Queens Coronation.

We survived and we thrived. Happy days.

Sadly I am a luddite when it comes to todays technology, Progress is going too fast for me to keep up. I still use map books, I have 12 yr old Nokia telephone. I still us a land line and a fax machine. Very rarely have a takeaway, and do most of my shopping in real shops.

I must however I do have a small business selling coffee pots on Ebay though.
