Sci-Fi's & music bios of rock groups/ artists.

However, on one book order I had some money left over & bought a book all about the factual trial of Cynthia Payne. It was very amusing as accounts were read out in court & recorded.

Audio books, these days, to go to sleep with or listen when running or travelling.

Usually it's something sciency or funny. Ideally both!

My favourites are by Adam Rutherford, Hannah Fry, Giles Yeo, David Attenborough, Kerry Daynes, and various stand-up comedians.

I recently read The Presidents Daughter, by James Patterson and Bill Clinton. It was pretty gripping I have to say. It was the 2nd of their books. Recommend if into action/thrillers etc.

I did try and read 1 or 2 autobiographies, but struggled. Well, it is a big word.

12 rules by Jordan Peterson and the book of five rings by miyamoto, i’m dyslexic so I try and read the real hard stuff because my head just switches off when it’s drivel, favourite book is Hawkins brief history of time, took weeks as I had to read read it to understand it

I read one fiction and one non-fiction alternately. And I mix and match categories a lot. I do read sci-fi among fiction and physics books among non-fiction more often than others. But I try to read more categories except romance and motivational books.

It's hard to recommend just one book though

This might seem contentious, but I very seldom read books by women authors (I know women who do the opposite). I think men and women see things through different eyes and fail to get the actions, motivation and speech of the opposite sex right.

I love science fiction and fantasy. But my husband bought me Bernard Cornwell books and I really enjoy them. So I guess that counts as historical fiction.

Hi,

If you want complex writing, you should try Churchill's books, - History of the English speaking people and his history of the Second World War. His sentences are very rich with ideas and you often have to read them two or three times to fully understand what he is saying.

James Patterson fan here too, got quite a collection. I got onto Steve Cavanagh, highly recommend you try his books, they're gripping reads x

SAS The Nazi hunters. By Damien Lewis. About certain operatiins behind enemy lines in germany in 1944. And then after the end of war. The hunt for Nazi soldiers..

Harrowing in places. But gripping.

Currently reading Behind the enigma, the authirised history of GCHQ. It is a bit of a slow read. But interesting.

Try Frank Gardner, BBC Security correspondent. I have read 2 of his books so far. Crisis and Ultimatum. Have just seen he's got a 3rd one out. Reconmend it.

OK. It's:-

"Sexplicitly Yours - The Trial Of Cynthia Payne." By Gloria Walker & Lynn Daly. It's a Penguin publishers book.

It's a very slim/skinny book. If you are a fast avid reader you will devour it in an hour or two....

Apparently there was a film made by one of the Monty Python lot - Terry Jones. I've not seen it but I think it was called "Personal Services"?

Try Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X series. The main character's like a cross between Jason Bourne and The Equaliser. Great for Reacher fans.

Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series is a Bourne-a-like assassin in a similar vein to Leather's Spider Shepherd books - Rapp swats terrorists for the CIA.

Michael Connolly's Bosch series are great LA police thrillers. Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Iles books, two tough women detectives.

Try Don Winslow, a terrific crime fiction writer. His Cartel trilogy is a brutal portrayal of the dirty war against the Mexican drug gangs on the US border, told from both sides.

If you like US crime books, go further back even. James Ellroy's LA quartet is brilliant (the film LA Confidential was taken from them). A writer called Andrew Vachss writes very dark thrillers about an unconventional character who hunts down paedophiles and child killers in New York.

Joseph Wambaugh's Hollywood series, about policing the seedier side of LA, have multiple plotlines, great characters and are often very, very funny.

History. Currently reading the new edition of Michael Woods' "In Search of the Dark ages". The original was a classic, and the new edition updated it with tons of new research.

I also read classic Ghost & Horror stories.

I like thriller / spy stuff.

Anything by Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler and especially Mark Greaney.

Forgot to add John Grisham, his writing style is so easy to read and flows really well. It's hard to put his books down.

They made American Assassin into a film a few years back. They show it on Film4 quite often. It's the story of how Rapp joins the CIA, his training and first missions. It was different to the book and really not very good.

Been a while since I’ve done any serious reading. I did read Dave Grohl auto biography was a Christmas pressie.
