with money being tight and xmas on the way.

will you be spending less on presents this year or saying bugger it you only live once and spend as much as you normaly do ?

how much would you normaly spend on presents for everyone

Will be a tight one this year but I've told the kids next year will be huge as hubbys been made redundant so I'm squirreling away a few grand to do a nice big crimbo next x

only gifts im buying for is my daughter and my grandparents.

ive agree'd with my mum/her partner and brother that xmas day will be all about the occassion so food, drink and board games/dvd's rather than presents

The Four of us agree to spend just £20 each on our individual presents, so we have a total of £80 to shell out each, on top of this we collectively choose a charity to donate a further £80 to each.....this Christmas a local charity will receive £320 from us in total.

well with 5 kids to buy for its always going to be a bit more expensive for us lol, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

we like to go away at the beginning of December with the kids thats the start of our christmas nothing better than spending a few days in a log cabin visiting Santa and his reindeer's relaxing in the pool.we have been really lucky and even woken up to a good few inches of snow too. some people put their decorations up early we go away .

with 3 older children its hard to just stick o a limit as some of the items they would like are expenive and if i was to stay true to my word i would feel awful on christmas morning watching them open just 1 or 2 lol , is easier for the younger 2 as their items tend to be cheaper and their piles are always bigger.

i have a better chance of spending less if i go by myself but i like taking hubby along too so we have a last minute shopping day just the 2 of us..

we are cutting back on the adults though , have told them that i would prefer it if they just bought for the kids as we will only be buying them token gifts .

I tend to spend to much at Christmas but we don't spend much on the kids for birthdays. Also we are lucky that Michael gets a very good bonus at Christmas which more than covers it all, of he didn't receive that we wouldn't spend half as much. I also like to spoil my mum as she lives in a house with 4 men she gets the same every year, so I love to see her get something that has a little thought put into it.

im making presents this year foody goods as everyone is always on about my cooking when they come over. I can do everyones presents for about £40 i have bought two but the rest will be handmade. Everyone has everything they want so its an easy solution.

Cutting right down this year as we just don't have the money. Only buying for the children in the family and have cut down the amount we usually spend on each.

Our daughter has been told not to expect as much but she knows that it has been a tough year finanically for us.

Lol that's xmas dinner.

Got a house full of every kid's toy imaginable. Decided to just get minimal this year. Used to buy loads but they don't get appreciated. This way they get something they really want.

My mates are going into massive debt, buying everything the kids ask for. Seems a bad idea as they will grow up expecting the same.

Going to be a bit of a Scrooge this year as I'm not earning. It may mean less expensive presents and fewer bought but means I can concentrate on my kids and close family and friends only.

I will be cooking two Christmas meals though to accommodate both my older children's days they have free.

Youngest child and grandson take priority over my older kids my siblings and their kids.

Those not kids any more get lesser valued gifts but still given with as much love as always so they don't mind.

Plus I give to my family and friends throughout the year, may only be a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates but I give with love in my heart and they know that. Gifts are not just for Christmas.

I do smile, especially when I get I.O.U's from the kids or handmade vouchers saying they will be my slave/chef/cleaner/driver etc. etc. for a day.

Won't be an over the top Xmas for me, my lad is 18 and in the army, so he has everything he wants, probably end up giving him money or vouchers for shops. Parents well..... See what boots has in the 3 for 2 aisle..... Job done!

I think thats more than plenty, i used to spend that when he was little and ive just tottered up and it will probley be that much this year.

When we where kids we thought we got loads but mum says we never used to get that much spent on us

I have a very large family including 4 married kids and 6 grandchildren. Things are very tight this year so I've decided to only buy for my grandchildren. Don't expect to get any presents as the older adults have all agreed to spend their money on their own children...as it should be. We all know we love each other - no need to demonstrate that by getting into debt...sharing the occasion together is enough.

I always treat myself to a present at Christmas. However, I have bought so much camping gear this year, I don't really need anything else.

Therefore, it will go towards hotel room bookings for the upcoming meets instead.

I usually buy for all the family (nieces, nephews, brother, sisters etc) but this year it's only my parents, Siren and my three kids that are getting anything (mutual agreement between the families).

Don't buy anything for anyone just for Christmas or Birthdays etc...

If I come across items that I believe someone may appreciate, then I would get it, and bring it with me when I go and visit the intended recipient next, or send it to him/her via post.

I spend the most on my youngest daughter (17) as she still lives at home ... but even then we're talking around £300 so not insanely extravagant. But then it WAS her birthday this month so she's already had some nice stuff.

My adult daughter and her fiancé who have no kids get more than the one who is married with kids as I buy for the grandchildren (about £50 each).

Parents get books / hair salon tokens / theatre tickets etc. They don't want a load of junk to store.

I put a lot of thought into presents - I feel that's more important than throwing heaps of money at the situation. Oh - and I never go into debt for Christmas.

I have only three people to buy for, so I'm spending around £300 each. We've all had a pretty crappy year with losing some loved ones but I'm unusually flush at this time of year, so to hell with it!
