UK inflation hits new 40 year high of 9.4%

UK inflation has surged to a 40 year high as fuel and energy prices rocketed amid the cost of living squeeze according to official figures, how much more expensive have you noticed it have gotten? I dont use a car, but I have seen a increase for the fuel prices, how much more can the inflation rise and is there a limit for it?

It will only worsen, especially towards year's end. There will be significant social unrest and the current governments of most of Europe will have collapsed, the first having been UK followed by Italy. Germany next?

I'm sure when people are hungry and freezing they'll find comfort in knowing we stood up to a "dictator" in imposing sanctions that have crippled us far more than Russia

Is this the same Russia where they don't even have enough potato to make fries in the nationalised McDonald's? Or that children are being fed mouldy food in schools or that water supplies are being rationed due to power shortages? Or cars are being abandoned due to no parts available or tyres being imported? Think we doing pretty good compared to them!

When we see the children on the news dying cos they cant get a meal or there parents are on the run for stealing to feed them then the riots will begin i do hope they put enough money aside for extra police thats going to be needed people when desperate are capable of anything its a sad truth

Are my Russian students lacking knowledge of the situation there? It's pretty dire, economically and was even before the invasion of Ukraine.

No actually from people working in the offices I deal with over there so nothing to do with the press.

I think it will get to around 16% and interest rates to 5 or 6 , before Elon musk or someone like him fixes it. governments, not just ours are pretty useless at solving anything this complex, they are just a bit too thick and dint have the capital resources of large companies / individuals

It's only crippling some of us. Certain people are doing very well from the increased expenditures for arms.

Many people are seeing their actual inflation far higher than this. Mine is at least double, probably treble this level.

France is 5.8% by subsiding fuel costs perhaps. In reality, with comparable ordinary supermarket shopping in SE England and Southern France, £100 here gets far more than €120 of produce there. Meat is certainly more expensive there. Petrol is cheaper, hence it all balances out.

But €120 will get you a fair old haul in a Spanish supermarket. Tis swings and roundabouts, comparing country's economies.
