East London that is. Fields and parks are on fire and houses burnt down.

A friend has had to evacuate because the fire is close.

People saying it's not that hot should think again.

You guys over Lancashire way had it rough a few years back on Saddleworth.

How we avoided a blaze over at Brimham during the first lockdown amazes me. I worked the site alone and every morning I'd arrive to find a disposable BBQ and a patch of burned moorland. Amazing it never took hold

Anyone who is within reasonable distance any fires, be mindful of air quality for vulnerable people, particularly those with asthma and other respiratory conditions. Closed windows - even if it'd take the heat out of the house - better for lung health if there's a lot of smoke or ash in the air.

(I'm assuming not thinking of evacuation, but listen out)

Yes there was black smoke billowing from the field. We have a little blowing our way from the park fires, but not too bad.

My windows are shut to keep the heat out all day. I stepped into my back garden just now and the heat stifled me.

I hope it rains soon.

Well, the road the big fire was near is a main road taking goods from Tilbury and Dagenham Docks into London and god knows where. Just a few years ago it was big news that a freight train was travelling 7500 miles from China to Barking, where the goods will have to be distributed around England, along the A13. More pollution; thanks Theresa May.

That's a good idea. I don't know if the stairwell has emergency lighting but there is an alternative exit one flight down she could possibly use.

The scary thing is they had to have fire Marshalls for months after Grenfell, and hundreds of flats adjacent to hers are having the cladding removed.

The balcony fire was started by someone leaving a bbq on it and a mattress falling onto the used bbq. People are stupid.

So no one else can say their life is shit or acknowledge a shit situation because you have terminal cancer?

I'm truly sorry your had that diagnosis but I don't accept that premise.

These people's lives will go on but at this moment in time they're going through a traumatic event and others are allowed to recognise that and should be able to do it without judgment and name calling.

For all you know some of those who have lost their home due to fire this evening could actually be going through worse than you but they just need to suck it up, eh?

"I'm seeing posts for lost cats from the Rainham fire

I've just seen them too

And a dog now. 18 homes were lost.

Fucking hell

One man said it caught really quickly, in seconds.

That's gotta be hella frightening. Fire is one of those things that scares the shit outta me.

And me. My daughter is in a second floor flat with 3 babies and a teenager. I worry how she'll get them all out in an emergency. We've both got an escape plan thought out but if it's dark and the lights fail I'd be scared of falling with the babies in my arms.

A balcony near her flat caught fire a couple of years ago and it went through 3 others and 2 flats in no time.

get her one of those head torches she can keep by her bed.

"

people are indeed stupid. Don't get me started on those paper lanterns people light and let go in the sky.

Its a big worry when your children are in situations where you can't keep them safe regardless of age.

I’ve had a parent, relatives and a friend be diagnosed with terminal cancer and die from it. They followed an acceptance path that changed hourly, I wish you peace of mind.

Every day occurrence when living abroad. Bush fire right outside the house every week. Only did we leave the house once.

No its not nice, but this country is full of pussies. Moan about anything and everything, plus not prepared for fuck all. Wrong snow, and wrong leaves, and too hot, and a too cold.

Shut up

These 2 comments are rather unpleasant. Just because things happen in other places it doesn't mean we can't be concerned when it happens close to home. The lack of compassion in some of the posts I have seen on this thread are shocking!

It's not about people moaning it's too hot it is about people losing everything in a fire. It is about people putting their lives at risk to put these fires out, It is about people being upset. We currently have 3 fires burning in very close proximity to where we live and it is very unsettling.

That would clearly come with conditioning and having spent time in that climate.

These temperatures and challenges people are facing today are new to them. This isn’t something they had prepared through years of experience for.

Im lucky, I’m north of Scotland and I’m well out the way of it but give your body, in the way it’s been conditioned for the heat and drop you in the middle of a -0°C and watch you grab a couple blankets. A little compassion goes a long way and my motto is “Don’t be a dick”

No its not nice, but this country is full of pussies. Moan about anything and everything, plus not prepared for fuck all. Wrong snow, and wrong leaves, and too hot, and a too cold.

Are you sleeping under a duvet tonight then?

A friend has had to evacuate because the fire is close.

People saying it's not that hot should think again.

Suppose they'll try and blame climate change and that global warming bollox we keep hearing about.."

Do you think it was the best thing to wind people up about? My daughters' friends lost everything. Some people have lost pets.

I hope everyone can recover soon and rebuild their lives. It's an awful time for them.

We see news reports about big fires oversees and you hear the majority of people talking about it saying how devastating it must be for everyone. Big fires happen over here and it's not the same reactions. It should be. A big fire, devastation, loss of possessions, homes and lives are the same no matter where it happens.

I've always wondered how sad someone's life needs to be for them to derive fun out of winding strangers up about traumatic events in their lives.

Of course you'll claim it's banter but you see banter doesn't work if you're a stranger to that person or if the person you're talking to is not in the frame of mind to take it.

You see going by another post of yours about the weather I don't think this was a wind up as you say, they look like your real thoughts and when you didn't like the questions someone was asking you because it made you look like those "pussie" that you complained of , you backtracked.

Backtracking is a worse look than admitting to winding people up I think

London started the shift 40 appliances off the run due to insufficient riders, it's been like it in the capital for months but they've got away with it so far..

They ran out of appliances to despatch to incidents at about 4pm..

Several other brigades also had no resources, there's never been that many brigades in living memory that declared a major incident..

Since 2010 there's been a reduction of over 11,000 firefighters..

Yeah I was reading about that yesterday as it was all burning, thinking they could really do with those lost FF now.

( God knows why there is no uproar and mprotests over all these cuts in the last few years, but I suppose that's for another thread.)

We live backing onto fields so were getting a bit jumpy , there for the grace of god and all that, I can't comprehend someone losing everything they had in an instance

Agreed, it's puzzling indeed..

We are the same, have dragged it back away from the fence after it was cut and left..

Got the garden hose laid out but in reality it won't do much..

"It’s called life. Shit happens. Deal with it. Snowflake society

Oh really? Deal with losing your home through no fault of your own?

I suppose you'd be happy to watch your house burn to the ground would you? getting terminal cancer is on a par but I’m not looking for sympathy. It’s shit but that’s life. Rather lose my home than my life "

I'm sorry to learn of that, and certainly wish you well.

However, there may be some that have lost their homes that are also struggling with similar.

Fight your issue, not others.

Best wishes.

It's definitely an issue that when there's less resources available there is a direct impact on how quickly the initial attendance will be on scene yes..

Just heard London have declared another major incident, large incident at Erith..
