"Right then guys recommendations please. I have the firmest of mattresses and it is breaking me slowly but surely I've got about £400 to spend. Whilst looking I came across the Emma mattress...it's half price on sale...I've just about got enough for it. Does anyone have one? If so...is it any good? Anyone have any other recommendations? Getting a new one has now become a necessity as I wake up with really bad aches." We have just got a Emma mattress and we find it quite comfortable no complaints so far x

"I have an Otto mattress which may be a little more expensive but it’s fantastic. Very firm. I also have the pillows which are the only pillows that I don’t get too warm on and have to keep turning over. I insist you come and try them asap…you won’t regret it K" Let me see now! C has a really good one also hmmmmmm
Reply privately | Reply in forum | Reply +quote |
"I think it’s out of your price range but C’s mattress is about 1 1/2 foot in depth It does not budge, it’s a two man job to make the bed to lift it! It’s very hard and very comfy…you’d love it. Another you should try out K" For research purposes, you understand I definitely need to try them both

"I'll be following this thread with interest OP as I desperately need a new mattress before my back completely seizes up, and I haven't a clue what to go for. I'm sure you'll have more replies in the morning " We spend si much time in bed that a good one is definitely a necessity. I'm sure there will be a few folk interested in any recommendations

"I can't help but chuckle because "Emma Mattress" sounds like a purely British porn star name. I have quite a firm mattress. I'm 5'11 and 13 stone so don't want to get that "sinking feeling". Mind you, there's a slat or two that needs replacing, now..." It does sound like it Maybe that's why I'm drawn to them Glad you have found yourself a comfy one. They do recommend a firm one for heavier folk x

"Have you tried simply just turning it over?" It is so heavy it would take 2 men to turn it over and it wouldn't make any difference. They do say you should turn your mattress over. Thanks though x

"I got a new mattress just this week - I looked at the Emma mattresses and saw some reviews suggesting that they began to go downhill after about a year, so I decided that that wasn't worth the risk. " What did you go for in the end?

"I got a new mattress just this week - I looked at the Emma mattresses and saw some reviews suggesting that they began to go downhill after about a year, so I decided that that wasn't worth the risk. What did you go for in the end?" A Slumberland medium mattress from Benson's. (I didn't mention it because it's more than £400, sorry ) So far I'm really pleased. It's supportive firm but not uncomfortable. Re turning/flipping the mattress, if you can't flip it then try sleeping at the foot of the bed? The wear will be different. Or maybe get a good mattress topper - it's how I prolonged the life of my old one

"I've got the Emma hybrid, I think it's called. I prefer a firmer mattress in general I can honestly say, it's the best mattress I've slept on. I sleep on my side and it was recommended for side sleepers who like firmish mattresses." They are not in my budget I'm also a side sleeper

"We got an Emma, really liked it at first but found it dipped into the middle after a few months. Ended up sticking it on one of the kids’ beds and bought one from Next instead. I wouldn’t buy another Emma one personally x" Even with the small amount of us on here a few have tried Emma. A mixed bag of reviews and I think I need to rethink it x

I believe they sell European sized beds. The singles are an extra 10cm long. Not impossible to find fitted sheets, but you'll struggle to find them in shops. Online is the way to go

"When I bought my bed I tried the mattresses in the shop. I felt like a right prat lying down on various ones in front of my parents and the sales assistant, but it was good. Plus I was told the heavier you are, the firmer the mattress you need. As it's something you'll use every day for years and a bad one will make you feel rubbish, I would definitely want to try them out and not buy online " I have no problem trying them out in the shop. And so right...a bad mattress can leave you feeling awful with aches and pains. There's only me and I'm only light but you never know who I could end up eventually sharing a bed with

"IKEA do a large range of mattresses and our local store have an area set out to try for comfort. Plus shrink packed so you can even get a king size home in the car IKEA mattresses are not a standard size and only their bedding fits their mattresses! " This isn't true anymore. They do UK sizes as well as European sizes. We have IKEA mattresses on our daughter's bed (single) and son's bed (double) and they are the expected size plus our random rag-tag collection of bedding fits just fine.

"I think Ikea mattresses are 7 foot long and double and single UK matresses are 6' 6"" They do UK sizes as well as European and have done for a long time. We put an IKEA double on a non-IKEA double bedframe in about 2007 and there were no problems.
