All amazing female artists of the last decade, but do they out perform and scale Cher, Ross, Bassey and Cerys?

Everybody's opinion is right and feel free to add to the many amazing female singers from over the decades.

Agreed, i need to google June though as my heads had a fart, got me thinking Dusty Springfield could be added to that list too,

Is Alanis Morrisete modern or classic? I'm going for classic but beats Avril by a nose.

Alanis is amazing.

And Skin front woman for Skunk Anansie

June Carter-Cash was a singer in her own right. She was Johnny Cash wife.

"Whitney Houston

And the above "

3 amazing performers, Adele for modern, Whitney and Celine for recent past. Maybe Aretha Franklin to balance the past, struggling to think of a modern solo female with that power.

I absolutely detest Cher's voice and songs. No idea why but she really grates on me and she is one of the only artists that I will happily turn off the radio and sit in silence for instead of listening to her.

I wouldn't even do that to Daphne and Celeste!

There are so many better female artists out there that I love. Most of which have already been mentioned, but I also want to call out Amy Lee from Evanescence. Such a good voice!

From a performance point of view, many of the Motown generation were not very thrilling. Modern performers generally consider the "performance" to a greater extent than in the past.

what about Kate Bush op?

Phenomenal writer. Great tunes/tracks. Refused to be pushed around by record companies making her have producers. She new what she wanted & where she wanted to go. You have to give her credit for having a set of balls!

No love for Karen Carpenter? A three-octave contralto, such an amazing pure voice. Those low notes, absolute heartbreakers.

Dusty Springfield? Patsy Kline? Timi Yuro?

Go further back, Julie London, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lee Wiley.

Way more better female voices than just current singers.
