I need to speak out doubt I’ll get much response, but I used to be terrible with online casino and sports bets but I signed up to gamstop which was a life saver quite literally but now I’m struggling with scratch cards and any fruit machines I come across has anyone been able to totally stop gambling? I feel terrible I stop ott then I have some kind of relapse and spend all my saved money in a week on it it’s driving me mad

You need to contact GamCare UK. Free advice and can have face to face talks to help. It is an addiction like drugs and alcohol and you need help to ween yourself off it. Don't try to do it alone.

I gamble from time to time but I don’t see it as a problem because I can take it or leave it.

I play the lottery and buy scratch cards more than anything else but because I tend to win more than I lose I keep on doing it.

I won £1500 on the Euromillions Hotpicks on Tuesday night for a stake of £1:50 on one line, just waiting for a major drop.

I hope you manage to curb your habit OP, can be a tough one to crack but I reckon you’re on the right path by at least being open about it on here.

Good luck

That's a very worrying statement

To the OP you've taken the first step in admitting, as above have said seek professional help, good luck pal.

I met someone in Thailand who got into so much trouble with scratch cards they borrowed money from the wrong people etc and ultimately had to leave the uk in fear of their life.

I think if you have a vulnerability or weakness for something. - gambling, drugs, the wrong type of sex etc you have to put controls in place to prevent it until you are cured.

Putting your finances under someone else’s control temporarily can work. Have you a friend or family member could help with that ?

Most gambling addicts I've spoken to always reckon the big win is around the corner.

And I was speaking to one yesterday.

Because there’s only ever one winner and it’s never the gambler

Either way, bragging about a win on a thread where the OP has openly stated that he's struggling with gambling is pretty unsavoury.

Addiction is horrible. My ex wife is an alcoholic, divorcing and losing her almost killed me.

OP i sincerely hope that this public admission is the next step in your recovery.

You must keep trying.

Wasn’t bragging either, just putting my side of things across..I also wished him well..that’s not unsavoury in the least

Best to stop and stay clear

We all kid ourselves we can handle it but some of us will chase our losses and lose more than we can afford

Even if we win will end up losing it afterwards

This may seem strange but one thing I will always be grateful to the kink scene will be curing me of a serious slot machine addiction.

I used to get the train to London and go to the machines in Leicester Square for ages.

I spoke about with a domme I was serving at the time and we came up with a plan and even though we lost contact shortly afterwards the plan was enough to keep me away from machines and that was 20 years.

Good luck to the OP

Okay, I get this. I lost a good friend who took his own life cos of online gambling debts. It was deeply shocking and tragic.

Give it all up and accept the house always wins!

If you really want to learn how to make money by putting money on the line you can by learning forex and commodity trading online. Even better if you learn to code your strategies.

Here’s the pathway I’ve been following for the last five years and I fully recommend it:

Websites: Apiary Fund: great course in the early stages - do for at least a year!

Forexsignals.com: learn a range of strategies from these guys - much better than Apiary once you’ve done your basic training.

Zenandtheartoftrading: Study coding for a trading site called TradingView to build and automate effective strategies.

TradingView.com: learn a top charting site used by thousands of profitable traders.

Once you’ve spent a few years working with all that you may start thinking about making money with money - but there are some inviolatable rules:

RULE 1: NEVER TRADE WITH YOUR OWN MONEY! That’s what Proprietary trading firms are for.

RULE 2: NEVER PLACE A TRADE WITHOUT A PROVEN STRATEGY WHOSE PRECONDITIONS FOR A TRADE ARE CLEARLY MET!

RULE 3: STUDY HARD FOR YEARS BEFORE TRYING AND ONLY USE DEMO ACCOUNTS FROM BROKERS. NEVER EVER USE YOUR OWN MONEY!

RULE 4. YOU WILL LEARN THAT GAMBLING NEVER WORKS! LUCK NEVER LASTS! THE BIG BANKS CONTROL EVERYTHING! YOU ARE ONLY A HELPLESS MINNOW! YOU WILL LEARN PATIENCE, DISCIPLINE AND ONLY FOLLOW TRIED AND TESTED MARKET PATTERNS.

RULE 5. BE THOROUGH, PATIENT, AND STUDY HARD!

After 5 years I am still not ready to trade real money, even somebody else’s. That may still be another year away yet as I need to learn to code, code then backtest the hell out of my strategies first.

Remember: there’s no easy way to earn money - only easy ways to lose money!

Oh and one other thing: if you do decide to gamble in the forex markets with your own money you will be wiped out before you know what time of day it is! I’ve known people lose £100k in five minutes!

dark side of the moon

I've a mate who has had a gambling issue all his adult life (55).

He's very open about it and doesn't want help.

It's not the winnings he likes. It's the buzz he gets from the horse reaching the finishing post first.

For him it's the buzz not how much he puts back in his arse pocket.

Thanks for all of your kind words, i have cut back and I’m planning to knock it on the head at some point this week I’ve made a start, not touched any slots just had a lucky dip and a scratch card so as you can imagine that’s a lot of money saved. By the weekend I will not be gambling anymore thanks so much I’ll keep an update on here how I’m doing once a month or so for those who are interested or faced similar issues
