What are the life's precious necessities that you will not compromise on when it comes to 'homestyle' comfort and quality?

For me it's a decent set of towels and linen.

Decent aftershave and shower gel (not high street crap), vintage champagne only, speyside whisky 18year minimum. And finally clothes, I find the cheap stuff just disintegrates after a couple of washes, the best T-shirts I’ve bought so far come from orlebar brown.

Decent coffee grinder , dining table, mattress, pillows, quilts, sheets, olive oil.

Towels I just borrow from hotels then take them to charity shops when they need washing

Fairy liquid - tried loads of others and they just don’t cut it

Shower gel - thanks to bloomin allergies but also the one I buy is easy to use when wet and I’m not dropping it on my foot in the shower!

Bedding - high thread count and feathers. Mattress itself is Tempur.

Kitchen stuff has to be Kitchenaid/Smeg/Brabantia

Headphones (Bose)

I will live off of cheap noodles so my animals have top quality raw food/Insurance.

I could go on! My main idea is to have items of quality that will LAST. I would rather buy one expensive item than 15 inexpensive items that end up in landfill.

Don't do anything less than a 4 star (although the star system is of questionable accuracy), but having ended up in a few grot holes then experienced the opposite- i'm paying extra for the quality room, service and surroundings (and preferably lack of any children whenever possible)

With regards to 'high thread count', be aware that it might mean softer than 'normal' quality but doesn't mean 'good' quality in the way the industry is marketing it. Likewise with the "Egyptian cotton" label.

Instead, you might consider it worthwhile looking at 'single ply, long-staple cotton' of about 300 thread count for truly soft, high quality sheets that aren't too heavy and an 'Organic Egyptian cotton' certification for authentic classic Egyptian cotton, grown and harvested in the traditional methods that made this cotton legendary.

Thats just whisky snobbery. There are plenty of younger whiskies that knock the spots off the older ones. The bunnahabhain 12 is an excellent example. Age doesn't guarantee superiority.
