The land of grey peas and bacon

I am watching brassed off.. about the band who was made up of pit workers..

Now being 32 I was a baby during Thatcher's era... I was just wondering why did they close the pits???

Many people are still asking the same question.

I was part of thatchers era and hated the bitch still do because over her reign i firmly believe the community spirit folk has eroded and replaced with the selfishness we now see in life today.

Reason for pit closures part economic mainly political.

The miners union destroyed Edward Heaths government.

Maggie sought revenge on all unions and especially the miners.

No PITS no miners to bring her down.

SIMPLE Really but the country now pays double for coal, but they dont care because they dont pay.

Just stick it on the expense account

having grew up as a young kid during the miners strike.. it was great..

.

people were really helping each other and feeding each other etc..

.

yeah - times were bad and it was a nasty tough time, but if someone had stole something or the likes..

god help them !!..

.

tough times created by maggie thatcher who also closed the steelworks in sheffield and also ravenscraig in scotland..

.

having lived in both doncaster and near ravenscraig in wishaw - i have seen the direct results of selling everything to the foreign import...

.

and the tories are still at it..

Same reason as the cow stopped free milk for children, she wanted to prove a point and make a name for herself. If she had a profile on here, wonder what she would call herself????

ooooh.... if you wiki uk miners strike (1984-1985) you'll get some insight...

you'll also see why when she finally dies, there is going to be a huge divide between those who loved her and hate her with a passion

Bolton

Nasty, power crazed, vindictive bitch - she wanted to break the unions - she caused so much hardship and heart break - there are large areas of the country that haven't yet recovered from her actions - Z

in Lancashire

she engineered the whole thing, stockpiled coal, gave the Police a big pay rise just before declaring that the 74 agreement was 'out of date'..

she knew by announcing the closures of pits that the NUM would react..

she wanted to destroy the power of the trade union movement and the NUM being one of the most powerfull was the target..

At Orgreave the BBC showed that the miners attacked the Police first, in fact it was the other way around..

this was later admitted to by the Beeb..

we now import coal from the other side of the world and we have some of the finest quality coal beneath us..

she said there is no such thing as society..

and she destroyed many communities herself..

people died during the strike..

will shed no tears when she passes on..

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I loved what Frankie Boyle said about the cost of a state funeral for Thatcher (the milk snatcher).

"For that kind of money you could buy a shovel for every man, woman and child in Scotland and we could dig a hole so deep we could personally hand her over to Satan!"

I was on strike for the whole year and also spent time in prison defending our collieries and more importantly our communities from which we have never recovered. I will go to my grave a proud collier boy, the bond we had will never die.

Your best bet is to find someone that will explain it in simple terms. I dont mean your think, but someone who will go slowly. Thats how im learning about the wars
