And not in a good way

Offers to do friends wedding pics

Agrees price

I buy 2 items from them, thus lowering their fee payable to me

Spent £40 printing pics out (despite saying I don't generally print any pics)

They've paid - exactly half the agreed fee and are now not talking

That's not on.

Are they saying it's a wedding present?

Did you have a contact?

Verbal hard to prove.

Too late only printed 85 off out of over 600

Over 30 years so I'd hope so

They're not saying anything.

If they use any of them anywhere, they're in breach of copyright. Then you can sue them and you will win.

I used to have to threaten newspapers all the while, they always backed down and paid me over the odds as they knew they'd lose in court.

Order more from them and don't pay them.

Could they be experiencing financial difficulties with cost of living combined with cost of paying for the wedding? Possibly embarrassed that they can't afford to pay you? Maybe expected it as a wedding gift?

Either way it's not how to treat friends.

Put it down as a learning curve and copyright your images from now on.

Im sure this is only relevant if she already watermarks a copyright on her pics.

They don't have to be watermarked, you just have to be able to prove that you took them, evidence of which will almost certainly be in the exif data.

You can customise the exif data to include your copyright info if you wish.

I've had print labs refuse to print my own images until I've provided proof of copyright.

And that’s why I never agreed to work any of my friends wedding while I was in the business.
